Lian Li making XBox 360 case?!

Lian Li makes some very high quality PC cases. I am posting from a PC that is housed in a Lian Li Lancool K7, best case that I have ever owned (upgraded from an Antec Sonata). I would imagine that the airflow in one of those would be superior to the stock 360 case. But, if I had an xbox 360... I would not sacrifice my warranty by moving the guts to one of those cases.

I do think it has it's place for those who might buy one 2nd hand though. Or does the warranty transfer when you sell it?

Yes, I'm confused. Why would someone want to do this? It's hard to tell what the dimensions are like, but I don't see this being useful as a console case unless you want to store it like a PC. Looks like a nice PC case, though.

Technically no, in practice yes. They've been pretty lax because of the horrendous reliability; I believe they even fixed Xboxes with broken warranty stickers (although they've probably stopped that now, because now you don't have the excuse that you throught your warranty had expired when you broke it).

Thinking of buying an Xbox on Friday when the 60GB model launches or already own a console and find yourself worrying about its likely failure? You could just cross your fingers and rely on the extended warranty program, or you could splash out on the PC-XB01 from Lian Li and re-house your console in a new, cooler (in every sense of the word) case.

There is some argument that voiding your warranty, and denying yourself a guaranteed replacement Xbox 360, to put your console's innards in a new case might be a bit of a risky affair. Overheating isn't the only affliction that could kill your system, after all. However, if your primary concern is to stop your console over-heating or you just want a (debatably) nicer case for your Xbox than Microsoft's there isn't any other option.

There are other benefits to the PC-XB01. The use of a large 120mm fan to exhaust air, and the addition of noise-insulating foam around the drive bay should help avert one of the Xbox 360's biggest criticisms - namely that it's bloody loud when in use.

The PC-XB01 is priced at $150, and should be available towards the end of the month. A few e-tailers are taking pre-orders now for about £60, so if you're interested you know what to do.

I've heard of users being banned from Live for just modding their exhaust fans to run @ 12v full-time. I wonder if a case swap could be detected and banned as well, due to the OEM fans apparently not being used.

I wish they'd hurry up and release the die shrink for the GPU, and maybe combine it with the CPU and just put a massive heatsink on the whole thing.

The best part about it is the change to a 120MM fan... I mean, one of the reasons why the PS3 is quieter is how it uses a large (sort of) top-mounted exhaust fan rather than small 60-ish mm fans in the back... which I think anyone who knows anything about fans in PCs will tell you that if you want a smaller fan to push more CFMs, you're gunna get more noise.

$150! can't you get a new xbox 360 for $50 more really soon?

I agree with you ed21x. But that would more than likely be the Arcade version.

But...in *my* opinion, I would rather pay $150 for this case, and transplant the 360 guts into it than have a RROD *or more* and keep sending the console into Microsoft for repairs. I dont know, but thats just me.

Lets say two systems RROD *older versions* *hopefully not the new shrinks* that could be damn well near a month without a system total. So yea, I would pay for a case like this to keep playing for that month.

Although some, has had to send in their console even more than twice.

This is a nice idea though, Just wished it didn't void the warranty. Maybe Microsoft will eventually take note and build a aftermarket case themselves or allow the warranty to stay intact if you were to transplant.

Heres a  to Lian-Li for a great effort

Seems rather pointless.

I doubt this would do much to fix RROD issues as the RROD is caused by the way the GPU heatsink is mounted and not necessarily the airflow of the case. Not sure what the point of quieter fans is either, because the DVD drive is really loud, and I don't even hear the fans with the DVD drive going.
