One advantage of aluminum though (so I'd expect) - it won't sag over the years. My desk was designed to handle maybe a 17" monitor and a modest computer. Instead, it's being punished with a 21" monitor and over 40 pounds of a computer. It's a corner desk, and it was sloping about 3 degrees toward the center, plus the monitor shelf was bowing downward. I painted two 2x4's white to match the desk (quite an excellent piece of furniture, really) and screwed them to the bottom of the monitor shelf. I also added support struts (two more 2x4's) on the bottom. No more sloping, no more bowing.Originally posted by: Gurck
Does look pretty cool, though I've always preferred wood (ie. particle board 😛).
