LI-ION laptop battery question

Am I supposed to:

1)always use electrical outlet whenever possible....even when my battery is full or not full
2)use electrical outlet only when battery is low and use it only to recharge battery.....then unplug and run off battery?

i have heard that leaving ac adaptor connected to battery will make laptop to repeatedly attempt to recharge battery....shortening its life...is this true?

the only danger for Li Ion is undercharging. Most chargers are smart enought to do trickle charge, so just keep it as much charged as you like. Factories usually store Li Ion batteries at 40% charge. Li Ion are known to deteriate with time also, so after a few months if u notice it not last quiet as long, it's normal. Most will last 2-3 years fine with usually only 10%-15% difference as long as you don't let the battery dip to low. There is not such thing as "memory effect" on any rechargables anymore as that is a 10 year old term no longer applying to current rechargables (any type). Li Ion also does not or cannot be conditioned like NiMH or NiCd so anyone telling you to do that doens't know about specific battery types. Hope this helps!
