Li-Ion Battery

I am just wondering, does the same rule about needing to discharge the battery apply to Li-Ions as it does to Ni-Cds? I just got a new High Cap. battery for my $200 ebay'ed Toshiba Portege 7140, and I want to know how to keep it fresh. Thanks.
