8K iMac? I can't imagine what it would take to push that working well in an iMac. Although, I suppose the price point will be high enough it won't matter if they put in a beefier GPU.

Gold plated? $20k iMac to go with your $22k Apple Watch?

32" iMac?

Or someone at LG made a typo and meant 5K then someone else at LG read it and thought it was relevant to their presentation on 8K technology so they mentioned it.

There will not be an 8K iMac this year.

Agree, I don't see how it could be possible. With no additional vertical resolution an "8k" panel would need to push 60% more pixels than a 5k, and Apple has already made a big deal about all the special hardware they needed to make just to get that far.

I guess I could believe an 8k Apple TV, but the "leak" clearly said iMac.

Then again, if someone had told you last spring that there would be a 5K iMac that year, and before the first stand-alone 5K display even shipped, you'd probably be just as skeptical.

It's not a certain thing by any means, but I wouldn't rule it out coming straight from LG. The real question is the kind of graphics horsepower you need to drive 8K properly. It's probably gonna hinge on the next wave of GPUs if it happens in 2015 at all.

You know, that makes a lot more sense.

But the technology exists now without Apple having to create special hardware. And Apple could just make a bigger iMac.

Derp, that's right, the 5K iMac is already out:

This post really makes sense though. An 8K iMac would serve a much less thrifty niche than most and be able to command a premium and use premium parts. As long as the experience using the OS and some basic programs is good, Apple doesn't give two cents what FPS Crysis runs at.

The technology for 8K panels exist. The GPUs to push them during normal computing tasks exists.

The question really boils down to does Apple believe there is a market for a $3,500+ iMac?

Can the human eye even see 8K res? I saw some 4K vids and found my eyes hurting after a short period.

Yes, definitely. I live in Connecticut, which is a fairly wealthy state. When I've been to the Apple Stores at the malls, I see people walking out with $3,000+ iMacs all the time. I have a couple wealthy clients who bought iMacs for each kid, as well as for their kitchen. So there's enough of a market for $3.5k iMacs & $$$$ iWatches for sure!

I was expecting the 5K iMac last year, although I had guessed an Apple 5K Cinema Display would have shipped first.

If there was going to be an 8K computer, I'd expect Apple to have it first.

Though I'd hope this is a standalone monitor and not an AIO.
