I stopped at my local best buy and they have one LG L246 LCD monitor (display model) left on sale for $389 (about $200 off the retail price). I've been thinking about getting a 24" for a while and have been looking for a good non-TN panel. Does this seem like a good deal?
 
i have one of these and its an excellent monitor. mine was a best buy clearance but not the display model and i paid about that. its a good deal assuimng it works correctly and everything. anotehr friend of mine got one that was a display and he's very happy with it for $389 its a decent deal , though i would be slightly wary of it having been on for a long time as a display, but i thats why you are getting $200 off.
 
Thats a great price for a great monitor. BB also has the westinghouse 24 on clearance in a lot of markets.
 
If it is in good condition I don't think you should worry. You'll still be covered by a 3 year warranty from LG, it's just that the monitor has been powered on daily for some time, probably a few months. Most monitors last for years so I wouldn't worry, it's a good price at 389.

i just got mine a week ago, from a guy on anands who bought it at best buy new in box and used it for a couple months.

so its almost new.

this monitor is pretty much awesome. the blacks are very very black. i guess thats the pmva contrast ratio.

the best part was i upgraded from a nec 20wmgx2 and was still able to sell my nec on ebay for $385 shipped! so i paid maybe $50 to upgrade (paid $400 for the LG).

great way to spend $50 honestly. the LG is a fantastic monitor, buy it as soon as you can they are hard to find and most best buys dont have them anymore.
 
Ok, so I picked up the monitor and its great so far. However, the Best Buy guys no longer had the DVI to HDMI cable that it comes with since it was a display model. I told them that the retail model comes with one but they told me it didn't and tried to sell me a $60 DVI-HDMI cable. Needless to say there was absolutely no way I was going to pay $60 for a cable since I know newegg sells them for 1/10th that price. So I'm currently running it with a VGA cable.

My question is: How much of a difference does the DVI-HDMI connection have over a VGA connection on a monitor like this?
 
Some may not notice it, but there's no way i'd run a 1920x1200 display with VGA cable.
I personally see a weird rolling/shifting effect on most 24"ers i see hooked up with VGA, so no way.

But then again, if a display has DVI/HDMI, i would never run VGA regardless.
All four of my displays (including projector) run DVI.
No analog thanx 😉

Get yourself the DVI to HDMI cable :thumbsup:

if you have a really good card with really good 2d its almost as good.

but generally taht isnt the case.

just buy a dvi to hdmi cable at monoprice. ithink its like $5-6 last time i got one.
