LG L227WTG - backlight bleed

So I got this monitor today and I'm very excited. i upgraded from my old 19" crt. While the picture looks fabulous, I do notice about 1/2" of faded light on the top and bottom of the screen when there are dark images.

I'm playing Gears of War, which is almost always dark environments. Is this backlight bleed? Is this normal in all LCD's?

I'ts not a deal breaker as I real don't notice it in the action of an FPS......but it is worse than i had expected and may return it if it's not normal.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Most, if not all 22-inch monitors have some backlight bleed, to varying degree, even sample-to-sample.

You can minimize this effet by reducing backlight level. You can manually adjust color/brightness/contrast by guiding yourself on this Online Test

Thanks for the tips....doesn't look like you can control the backlight level though...anyone else have this monitor?

brightness level on 90% of LCD monitors controls the backlight.....

Sadly, TNs typically have backlight bleeding on the top and bottom of the screen, annoyed the heck out of me...

I have the L227WTG. Currently set brightness: 45 and contrast: 50.

Very minor backlight problem bleeding at bottom of screen. Other than this, all is good. In fact i'm very impressed with the colors produced by this LCD, being a TN panel.

After reading the review at tftcentral.com, I tuned my settings to the following:

Brightness: 45
Contrast: 50
Gamma: 0
Color R: 38, G:40, B:48 (i tuned RGB seperately - ie. did not use preset 6500k - 9300k)
Sharpness: 5
f-engine: Normal

Result after tuning had great improvement on overall viewability esp the colors.

Cheers! :)

Not so sure about their "review" which is like half a page long... :(

More indepth one here: http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/reviews/lg_l227wt.htm

well I think its short because that's the translated version, regardless that site is pretty good at testing monitors. they have these feature where you are able to compare two screens side by side and view things like backlight bleed and motion blurring.

I'm just about ready to go buy this monitor (on sale at CC and BB for $289). DigitalVersus was the only site to give a bad review to this panel. Also, aren't their reviews exactly the same as BeHardware's? I think Prad is a little more reliable and comprehensive. Anyways, if you're a gamer, the 0 input lag (see the review where it keeps pace with a CRT - 1st LCD I've seen that can do so) is pretty impressive too. I'll post something once I've had a chance to play around with it a bit.

Please do, I ended up keeping mine. I rarley notice the light while gaming and it was only when the screen was dark. just finished playing fear and it didn't bother me.

I did end up lowering the brightness quite a bit...i think I put it from 100 (factory) to around 50.

Mine has a very very minimal backlight bleed on the bottom of the screen, but just barely. And its only on the bottom of the screen. The samsung 2232 and the HP 2207 which I tried out had alot of backlight bleed all over the screnn from top to bottom and side to side...

I just picked up a L227WTG at Best Buy last night and I have back light bleeding on both top and bottom. Only a little on the bottom (acceptable) but more so on top and that is making me want to return it. I have lowered the brightness to 45 and that helped but its still there so I'm not sure if I should try exchanging it for another or returning it.

I am very happy with everything else about it & I really wish the back light bleed wasn't as bad otherwise I wouldn't even question a return. Setting the Contrast to lower than 70 starts to produce gray scale banding on the following test so I haven't changed anything else.

The Lagom LCD monitor test pages

Should I try another unit and hope I get a better one without the BL Bleeding???

There is another thread about this monitor over at {H}ard|OCP as well.
