Hello everyone,
I've read these forums for a little while but I've never posted anything. It looks like there's some great info on LCD's here and some experts in the topic who I could definitely use some advice from
About 2 months ago I bought an LG L1933 monitor from Circuit City after looking at other models. The guy at Circuit City actually seemed like he knew what he was talking about, so I trusted him and purchased the LG L1933 model. First mistake of a geek...trusting a Circuit City employee
For some reason, it's much darker on top than it is on the bottom. A flat color looks like a gradient. I know this isn't a $600 professional monitor, but the problem is really quite pronounced. If I take the exact same color, put it at the top of the screen, and another one at the bottom of the screen, they look quite different. I've tried every viewing angle, every setting, about everything and I can't fix it. It doesn't seem to be a viewing angle problem nescesarily, but maybe some sort of weird uneven backlight issue. Exchanged it at Circuit City, the new one had the same problem. At that point, I gave up and just waited a few weeks to see what I could find online, and then contacted LG. LG said they thought it was a backlight problem and sent a new one. Well, here I am with the 3rd model, and it has the exact same problem. I've tried about every setting everywhere, put it on an old laptop, and still no dice.
I called LG again and told them I was slightly frustrated and wondered if I could get another model or something. The model they said they could exchange it for was a L1953 unless I wanted to go to a 19" widescreen. I looked at the specs for the L1953, and they were actually worse. 5 ms response time instead of 2ms, 2000:1 contrast ratio instead of 3000:1...but the model was actually more expensive and newer. They both appear to be TN panels, so I'm not entirely too sure what I'm missing...
At this point, I'm a bit confused as to what to do. I can't return the thing to Circuit City, I'm not too sure if the newer model will fix the problem or it'll be exactly the same. I was thinking about asking about a different type of panel, VA/S-IPS, and just pay them the difference or something, but it doesn't look like LG even makes 19" with those type of panels anymore.
Advice would be very much appreciated! I'm almost at the end of my sanity trying to deal with this.
