At LG Electronics' dealer show in Orlando, Fla., Nov. 1-2, much of the discussion was about what was missing at the company's elaborate display of its 2007 lines.

After the sudden apparent resignation of VP Bob Perry just hours before the show, product development director Tim Alessi answered questions about the lack of Blu-ray (or any high-def DVD) products at the show.

Alessi explained that there would be no Blu-ray announcement, but hinted that LG might make some kind of high-definition DVD related announcement at CES.

"We have heard and read about a lot of delays [of Blu-ray product releases]," he said. "We recognize the huge opportunity but we will provide an announcement when the time is right."

Later Alessi elaborated. "I didn't say we weren't going to have a [Blu-ray] player. I just said we aren't going to announce it today. We are going to continue to look at all aspects of the market to come up with the best solution."

Asked if that solution might be revealed at CES, Alessi shrugged but indicated optimism.
