I've gotten the no SIM status twice now. Both times fixed it by removing the battery and putting it back. This most recent time, my battery status was peculiar. I was at ~35% when I turned it on. I then got the no SIM status, and my battery was at 17%. I had just woken up, so I'm not super clear on the chronology of events, but that's pretty close. One other small detail is the problem started when cold weather started. Could just be coincidence.

Could this be a sign of a failing battery? I bought the phone used, and have no reason to believe the battery was ever replaced. Battery life seems short to me, but it's acceptable for my purposes. If it's worth buying a new battery, any recommendations? The standard of Anker doesn't seem to be available on Amazon. Any other brands that are generally known to not be junk?

Have you replaced the SIM card yet? This is a common bug on older iPhones as well. Replacing the SIM at your carrier is a nice fix.

The LG G3 also has the ability to replace batteries and support extended batteries. You can keep your G3 for a long, long time if you want.

Hyperion is a good brand.

Thanks, I'll look that up. It hasn't been problematic enough to pursue as of yet. With all the talk of batteries lately, that got me thinking it could be a battery issue, especially with the peculiar behavior the last time. I didn't want to just throw money at parts if it's a more serious problem though. I've seen complaints about "no SIM" here and there, but never paid close attention, but they seemed to indicate the death of the phone. IOW, the fix was an rma.

I'll give it a little more time(til I need to make an amazon order), and if everything seems to be otherwise ok, I'll grab a new battery.

It really comes down to how thick you want your phone to become. I love giant 6500+ MaH batteries but you can go much thinner.

Anker sells a 3000 MaH for you phone. I love Anker. I also have had great reliability with ZeroLemon; they offer a 9000 MaH.

Anker for 3k, Hyperion for 6k, ZeroLemon for 9k.

But swapping SIM should fix your problem.

I don't have a problem with thickness, but I like the case I'm using. I like the otterbox defenders. They're the only cases that can stand up to my use. Whatever I get, I'd like it to have the same form factor, or at least close enough to where I could modify the case to work with my otterbox.

I didn't see the Ankers on amazon. I guess I'll have to look again. I'll also try the new SIM if it keeps giving me issues.

The Anker one is unavailable, but LG still sells their original battery on Amazon for cheap. Which one looks like your battery?

Awful reviews....

Nearly every extended battery I own is from ZeroLemon. Their cases are quite poor. The ZeroLemon is definitely EOL. Only available on Amazon Canada...

Both the Hyperion and PowerBear look to be made in essentially the same factory. The cases are identical. I think the case looks quite bad, but thats objective.

Having a good case with a custom extended battery is TOUGH. Only cases I liked so far was the ZeroLemon for my Galaxy Nexus and the TQTHL for my Note 4. I would confidently buy either PowerBear or Hyperion as their reviews are passable and not fake like this site:

https://gorillagadgets.com/products/lg-g3-6000mah-extended-life-battery

The Hyperion also has cases which is kinda cool:

I guess I would go with Hyperion. I wouldn't worry too much about a bad battery. I have bought extended batteries for years and never had a lemon (pun not intended). I have purchased many laptop batteries that have been duds. YMMV

I had this issue on my note 4. Ended up just being a dirty sim card, it had some white powder built up around the contacts. Since they are gold plated i have no idea where the corrosion came from, but i cleaned it off and it worked fine for over a year after that.
