I played around with it at my local tmobile shop. They seem to have gotten models early. It seemed very good. Display was crisp and the UI very responsive. Umm... One unique thing that I can say about it is that the power/lock button is now on the back under the camera/flash. So you can imagine holding a phone with one hand using your index finger in the back to lock or unlock it.

You don't need to use the back buttons to unlock it. LG has a feature on the G2 where you just double-tap your finger on a blank screen to wake it up, and double-tap on an empty area of an active screen to put it to sleep.

My brother has this phone and the display is the best I have seen on a phone. He had the htc one and s4 before that and those phones are childs play when you compare battery life and how smooth the g2 is compared to them. Never thought I would say this but I would get this lg g2 phone without thinking twice. They really have something special this time around.

Arguably the best phone out right now. Plan on being on 4.2.2 for a while but even then it's a great phone. Amazing screen, S800, 32gb storage.

I just bought one yesterday. It is absolutely phenomenal. I am coming from an iphone 4S and it is much faster, might better looking, and it DOES so much more.

The case/build quality is 2nd rate, similar to Samsung phones. But everything else is insanely great. I LOVE the way you can actually launch *resizeable* *floating* windows so you can do real multitasking (like web browsing for a phone number and then type the number into another window or the phone dialer).
Why didn't you get the Note 3?

The note 3 is huge for one thing. The G2 is roughly the same size as the Gs4 with a bigger screen and massive battery.

I was going to get this phone as a present for my wife but since the Nexus 5 leaked out, the Nexus 5 will be it.

Bought it! First one sold in my town - the store clerks did not know anything about it, but really liked it once they saw it. Smooth fast operation. Still getting used to the minor difference between it and my old SGS3. Will update as I get more of a feel for the phone. Thank you AnandTech Forums peoples!

Can't wait to hear first-hand experiences. I haven't seen this phone in person yet.

I've been back and forth with getting the Note 3 and the G2. I don't use the stylus that often but it's pretty damn handy when I actually do need it. It would be nice to have a phone that's a tad bit smaller though. Decisions, decisions.

I played with one breifly at a verizon store. Not bad; the sound is loud (volume and speaker) but the htc one definitely has better sound (not nec louder). I kind of like the controls on the back; with my galaxy note 2 I frequently hit them by accident (though that phone is wider). The one negative is no sd-slot (which I like to use for the camera). Hum. Well time will tell.

I have an LG Optimus G Pro. Honestly, I would not get another one. Great screen. Boatload of "features" that came right out of Samsung's playbook. I like the mSD and replaceable battery but I haven't touched them yet because the phone comes with ample battery and space. But all the gimmicks are half-baked and I cannot get rid of them. Q-slide takes up massive space in the notification area (after scrolling down). The LED lights on the home button only works with LG apps. And, worst of all, the auto-brightness simply does not work whether or not you check "auto". The phone has a massive screen that I have to manually adjust ALL THE TIME. I've never had this problem with any other phone.

If you can look pass these problems then the hardware is great. But, man, does LG have some serious catching up to do wrt software. Other than that, I really like the phone but I find myself wishing I could get rid of all these "features" completely and add basic ones...

Played with a G2 at a Verizon store. I LOVE the double tap to turn on and off feature, I hope every single smartphone in existence uses it going forward. That's the huge plus of the G2 for me, plus on screen buttons. The downside is that I'd be giving up the stylus for the Note 3, which I also find very useful. I still can't decide between the two.

Hmm I had assumed you could disable all the crap LG added into the notification window - I really don't like their Q-slide stuff either - so that sucks.

I would try Lux Dash for brightness control - I wasn't happy with the auto brightness on my Note 3 or Nexus 4, but I'm very happy with the program. Out of the box it's better, you can also set a static increase/decrease over the standard brightness, or you can actually put in different threshold customizations based on the light level.

I think a stylus on anything less than a 7 or 8" screen is pretty much a gimmick.

Gonna have to disagree with that big time. I had no issue taking notes with my Note 2, both in class and at work. It's very handy to have during phone calls. Someone wants to tell you something to remember, instead of having to switch to speaker phone and opening an app, you just pull out the stylus and a notepad pops up automatically. Web browsing is also better with a stylus, more accurate and you can use the stylus to quickly capture things you like to share. And let's not forget the good old sketching while killing time (for those who can draw). Once you have it with your phone you realize how useful it is.

Agree - I use it regularly to take notes in meetings. Sure I wouldn't want to take a lecture full of notes on it, but for bullets and light diagrams, it's incredibly useful for me.

I have the note 2; and I don't use the stylus that often but I agree it is use-able on the smaller screen. However, I kind of prefer the g2's form factor (bit narrower) and I like the idea of the buttons the back but the sound on the note 2 is a bit better and a lot better on the htc-one. Hum. Anyway the G2 lacks an sd slot and that is a bit of a sore spot.

I've watched a few hands on video's of the Verizon G2 and they all state that VZ has pre-installed a lot of apps and has changed the app launcher.
1.) can the apps be uninstalled and...
2.) does the app launcher really mean anything for day to day use?

For those worried about the battery replacement- They pulled off the back on XDA. Simple. Just a normal plastic back without the tumbnail notch. Looks like a normal phone inside (the Korean one had a removable back) Battery replacement will be trivial if you need to change.
