...but was it really necessary to turn my bottom button row into a set of Playstation keys?

A 5 year old could have designed them.

My update just came in today, and I'm on T-mobile. Wish they didn't touch the stock music app though. I liked the brushed metal look. The only other thing I lament in this update.

Edit: Also, they took away the ability to rotate the home screen. Bah, it was a great feature to have when in bed.

if you haven't figured out by now, google is a bunch of idiots with regard to UX and UI design. material design language? more like messy desk language!

Apple's design is worse so Google shouldn't feel too bad about it

tell me about it....

its amazing how my 1 year old s5 is dog shit slow on lollipop. i factory reset and wiped that phone four times just to be safe. even though i'm running google launcher for the look and feel, i wonder if its really the touchwhiz and samsung packages (which i don't use and only opened once to try to turn off any options..) bloat that is slowing me down, or its just lollipop.
Its also resulted in terrible battery life.

it feels as bad as my nexus 4 on lollipop before it broke. And the battery life is about the same as a 3 year old nexus 4 which is saying something.

of course it does look much nicer, so its hard to go back to 4.4 at this point :-\

That's probably more a "it hasn't been reset in a couple years" thing than the s800 being slow. You should try a factory reset before you get rid of it.

Agreed, the S800 is still pretty friggin fast and doesn't struggle at all here. In fact, Lollipop seems faster in my case, though I keep my phone quite clean. Battery use under use seems to be a bit worse though. Not wakelock, nor unmanageable, but battery just drops faster when I actually use the device. Kinda disappointing.

I did a fresh install a few weeks ago, my nexus 5 was never this slow on kitkat, lg's kitkat is simply trash.

Oh yeah, web browsing eats up battery way faster on Lollipop than it ever did on Kit Kat. Something like 1% battery use every minute and half vs nearly twice that pre-update. Android Systems is at roughly 20% of battery usage while it previously barely registered. Wipe cache? (d9es this require rooting?)

Edit: the browser also eats 20% of my use, much higher than I remember.

I'm in the same boat.
I've been using a G2 and got it updated to Lollipop. Then I got a hold of the S5 and updated that too.
I had to give one away and I decided to keep the S5 just because it has more value. The S5 suck ass. Battery is terrible with this thing. I've factory reset this thing twice.
I'm just biding time until the next greatest and latest comes along.

Google play services is the culprit for the battery drain. There is nothing you can do about it unless you get rid of all google apps. This is an issue across all google devices that have the latest google play services installed (7.3)

I'll just kill all the google stuffs until something happens.

Edit: 10 minutes later, and I already notice my battery not draining quite as fast under use.

so there's about 15 packages I uninstalled-- disabling was not sufficient, backed up first of course: but uninstalled, from my LG G2 that freed up about 300MB of RAM. Each VM heap was like 30-45MB. ugh!

but it's super fast now.

aside from the faster storage, nothing has been as fast as my Nexus 5 on 4.4.4 with Faux123's kernel with KSM (VM and library deduplication in RAM through virtualizing the redundant memory) and a 1GB ZRAM that compresses and caches the FAT and queues all disk writes only flushing when necessary and when you turn the screen off cause you're done using the phone. Sequential write is only 7MBps vs the LG G2's like 20MBps or so, and the sequential read is only like 30MBps vs the LG G2's like 70, but the caching circumvents the disk and, RAM being obviously much faster than flash, makes the phone fly

s800 is perfectly fast it's definitely RAM and bloat and other stuff. imo

I have the Verizon LG G2 and I more or less don't like the 5.0 update. From the aforementioned buttons to the notifications and memo/notes changes, I hate it. I think the look and icons are a step backwards. Functionally the speed and battery life appear to be unchanged for me.

Luckily I got my update before the wife did, so she is able to not apply the update.

Hard to do something wrong when I factory reset it and the battery still run like dog shit. I know there is something in there thats draining it but I have very minimal apps installed. Its the same app installed in the G2 so I'm basing off S5 vs G2
I have heard great things about the S5 battery life which is why I'm perplexed about the battery drain. A friend told me at work that S5 on T-mobile drains much quicker vs others.
I had to turn off "location" and the battery drain is comparable my G2 before although I don't think I had to turn location off on the G2.

Yes I thought it was a bunch of BS too when I read that it was Google Play Services killing my battery. But when I received my phone and was still transitioning from my old phone to the LG G2 and had no apps, Kitkat, and no updated google play services, my battery drain was 0.5% per hour on standby. Nowadays I get 2% per hour regardless of what I do.

Though, now that I think about it, having an Android phone with no google services is pretty stupid and useless.

what apps?

if you reinstall the app that's causing the problem, a factory reset isn't going to help you

that said, I wouldn't put it past the update to need a reflash.

How can you disable the 'update' reminders? I really am not interested in updating my G3 to Lollipop yet, but I can't get the thing to stop popping up and telling me to update. It even turns the phone on out of sleep to tell me...if you click "install later" it wants you to put a time in (same day), there is no option to not update other than backing out, in which it just pops up again...wtf.

The 2nd time I factory reset it, I was very careful in what I installed.
I using Apex launcher vs Go launcher on the G2(apex is lighter).
Theres a weather app I was using on the G2.
Viber which I use to talk to my wife while she's away.
Theres maybe 3-4 more apps on the S5 that I don't think is running at all.
This is VS 30-50 apps on my G2 running with location on(I'm sure I had location "ON" on my G2.
I'm not a novice user. I'm only comparing what I was using with my G2. The battery drain on the S5 is just crazy. Like I said earlier, I turned OFF location on the S5 and now its about the same as the G2.

use stumproot and then titanium backup to freeze or something
