The new LG watch is round and looks pretty decent. The Samsung Gear looks futuristic.

I am withholding judgement on the Watch R until I see it actually running Android Wear. It definitely looks nice with a standard watch face, but the real test is how it looks showing notifications and whatnot.

Samsung's just looks bad IMHO. Better than the previous Gear watches, but still bad.

True. I just thought it looked decent at first glance. The gear s is off the table because I want android wear, not tizen os.

I am still pretty set on the moto 360 even knowing these are coming too.

Best Gear design yet. Not sure how many people really want an independent SIM/cell radio.

When they teased the G Watch R, I sort of said: hold up.

I was dead set on the Moto 360 (unless it looks awful on my wrist) until I saw that tease. Even for the G Watch R, the fashionable nature involves my personal wrist. The right watch for one person can be the wrong watch for another. That said, it also takes a slightly different approach to the face design, a little more sporty or marine-esque (Mariner, Submariner).
I'm curious if the edge markings dim when the full Android Wear display is active, as opposed to the watch face display/app. That might seem annoying if they remain fully visible yet you are looking at Google Now cards.
That said, the typical bezel design they went with makes it very easy to hide the display electronics that Motorola could not hide on the Moto 360. That black bar doesn't bother me that much; I'd just as surely rather it not be present, but I can accept it.

I think, as far as watch designs go, I still prefer the 360's simplicity over the somewhat traditional design LG went with for the G Watch R. It's not traditional in the sense of oldest, but that's a popular face/bezel design. It was never a face design that I have ever strongly sought out. I prefer not to have that kind of a bezel insert, though I do prefer the more traditional lug design. That's one aspect of the 360's look I kind of miss - it's a larger circle without a visible lug/shoulder, so it's a little more jarring as one large circle.
The circle motif is common but usually it's softened a bit with the shoulder and lug that helps taper the design into the band.

GW R and Moto 360 are the only acceptable smartwatches. The rest of these fugly Android Wear watches can just die.

That LG watch looks awesome. But it's using LG's P-OLED, which is reportedly orders of magnitude worse than what Samsung has been dishing out over the years (see LG Flex).

Can I check the time on any of those in direct, strong sunlight? No? Useless as watches and for anything else I have my smartphone. That's my take :p

The current G watch uses an IPS screen unlike the new one (OLED). The screen doesn't look curved (like the Samsung one), so I wonder why they went with an OLED screen. Maybe some sort of active notification where majority of the screen remains off to save battery?

Probably because with an OLED you can turn pixels off completely and save lots of battery. So when you're looking at a standard watch face, you can shut off the pixels displaying black.

I'm the opposite, smartwatches are a useless gimmick until they can act as a standalone device. Tied to the smartphone, they're pointless. You still have to pull the phone out of your pocket to do anything at all. :/

Given my experience with the older MotoACTV, it shouldn't be hard at all to have these viewable in direct sunlight.

Now here's a better and more realistic photo:

As I feared, it does not look anywhere near as good when it's actually showing Android Wear stuff rather than a simple watch face. The thick bezel with the time indicators looks really out of place, and it sticks up above the display quite a bit, so swiping may be more annoying to do.

Yeah, that doesn't look near as good. I've been torn because I am interested in a android gear watch, but nothing just is quite right. The 360 looks so so in most pics... the R looks like it is going to cost half the price of a phone which is way too much IMO. The samsung just looks.... well it looks like crappy IMO. Not happy so far... but the 360 seems like the best option for now. After seeing it in this youtube video it doesn't look half bad.

The watch in that photo is the LG R, not the Moto 360. :)
