lg dvd region unlocking

hi i bought a DRD-8161B 16X LG DVD and was wondering whether it is legal or not to unlock the region on it because i have movies from both regions 1 and 4 and i dont want it to lock up on me...

if it IS illegal sorry delete this mods, if not PM plz

I really don't see why not since you're buying DVD's legitimately. There's no laws about DVD region coding, its just a compliance/formatting issue.

I have yet to buy a DVD player. WTF is up with the different regions? Is this some kind of codec support for different recorded formats?

Typically it's just a simple key sequence on the remote. Let me see what I can find.
