LG CRD-8520B CD-ROM owners, answer this one!

I have this CD-ROM, and for some time it has been activating my HDD led. I contacted LG to try to solve the problem, and they said I should turn DMA access on. So I tried to, with no success. The BIOS won't allow it. When I force DMA mode 2, it'll stop POST and ask me to correct the problem. First I thought it was a problem that concerned only my CD-ROM, but then I wen't to my father's house to check his rig (which has a REALLY different config) that has the same CD-ROM model. No DMA either.

The specs show it as being capable of running DMA mode 2, but my CD and my father's won't. Do you know what could be wrong?
