Has anyone with a LG GCE-8160B CD-RW updated their firmware to 2.01 yet?
If so what are the advantages?

I will be doing so in the weekend. I need to open the comp to make it master and the only drive in the secondary channel as per instructions. The only reason I am doing so is to make it Win XP compliant. I am planning to install Win XP on my comp this weekend.

sorry did not have time last weekend. The wife wanted to do some xmas shopping. I am currently trying to figure out how to backup 93 GIGS of data to do a clean install of WinXP. From the looks of it, I will not be able to upgrade until after the holidays. I will try to upgrade the firmware though.. I will let you know how it goes.

knutp, download here

I just upgraded to firmware 2.01. Looks like everything is OK. I tested a normal burn. I will test overburn tomorrow. It's getting late.

Finally found time to install XP. Worked great with the drive and overburn did work. My buddy's CDRW just died and asked me to get him the same drive I have. Picked up an OEM one and noticed that the shipping bios was 2.01. And I already made a boot disk and the bios flasher for him since I knew he has Windows XP the night before. Well, I gues I have another spare disk.

For flashing just follow the instructions, however with the flasher I got I had to put this parameters with the flash command, " /3 /m" to make it work. "/3" to identify secondary IDE as master. I really do not know what the "/m" was for, but it said so when I used the parameter "/?" on the flash utility. This is how I got it to flash. Just to be on the safe side, I made sure that it was the only drive on the secondary IDE and is set as master. I did not want it to flash the wrong drive.
