LG burner and dvd-rom

Bear with me if this is a reposting, this is my 1st ATHD posted and I checked for a repost prior to this. Anyways, for those of you who haven't subscribed to geeks.com newletter here's a big portion of it. Entering the code LGBURN upon checkout will get you:

Red, black, and blue dual tip permanent market set

a 288 disc nylon cd-case

A meritline DVD Meda & DVD case labeling kit

and a 50 disc spindle of e3 works brand 52X Vinyl CD-Rs

All for $24.99 (according to the email newletter, I see it's 20 bucks refurbed on the website)

Its a good deal for a combo but for $10 more you can get a nec dvd burner at newegg. This is the type of thing a pc shop puts in a pc to upsell you to dvd burner and keep the price $10 lower out the door. For yourself I hightly suggest paying the extra $10-15. I have heard that the lg dvd players are real good at reading and maybe scanning. Anyone recall that?

Not sure but I could sure use one of these or a DVD-burner as you suggested. The dvd-rom I'm using now is pissing me off pretty badly but I guess I get what I pay for, which was only shipping. Can someone guess where I got that drive from on these forums?? 😛

LG DVD burners do not perform quality scans on your burnt DVDs. For that, you need a Liteon or Benq DVD burner.

Refurbished drives are not worth messing with.
There's not a large enough price break to justify buying one.
Stick With NEW!

I screwed around with 4 different dvd burners on 2 different pcs. It drove me nuts chasing problems until I bought my benq 1655 (about $50) . Now I don't even think about it when I burn. My nec 3550 (about $40) makes passable dvds but is more media dependant. The others were literally unreadable but after 4 different brands I thought it was me or my pc. Good luck
