LG 31" 4k

Adorama has it listed, but out of stock. Might be able to e-mail them for an ETA?

I like that this monitor is actually 4K resolution (4096x2160), as opposed to most of the other "4K" monitors that are actually 3840x2160.

I agree. But if you check the owners thread at [H], it seems games are having issues with this resolution because of the 17:9 aspect ratio.
 
They are available at Fry's. I have one right now next to my Samsung UD970.

It's a great panel with good response time. The only issue IMO is whether you are okay with a 31" monitor doing desktop work, but a 29" monitor with 1 inch black bars on either side for gaming and watching media. Because only a few games support 17:9 aspect ratio--and even then the menus screens and cutscenes are usually still 16:9, so you will have black bars during transition scenes and menus. Any "competitive" game will have a fixed aspect ratio these days and usually they are fixed at 16:9.

For people running 1920x1200 monitors you are probably already used to this, although the other way around (black bars being at the top and bottom).

As far as the Benq goes, it's probably just the 3200PT with a different panel. A lot of complaints about a noisy power supply with the Benq, so $999 is a good price if you are a headphone user 🙂

4k monitors are coming along nicely. I'll wait for them to be in the $500 (the Korean lg rejects) range since I already have a 1440 monitor. One more year. By then, GPUs should be strong enough and connectivity standard would get sorted out along with software compatibility.

A single 980 can do 2013 games with no AA at around 40-45fps like BF4. For 2014 titles like Ryse you get like 35fps. If you are used to playing console games you'll be used to this kind of framerate. But anything coming out in the next 2 years will definitely need to lower the detail, or need at least the upcoming GM200/Titan II to maintain 40-50fps performance level.
