LG 27GN950 or wait?

I need to pick up a new monitor. I've been using a 27" 4k monitor for over a year and would like to keep that size and resolution, but I am also interested in higher refresh rates (currently at 60hz). The LG 27GN950 is 4k 144hz, but uses HDMI 2.0, and DP 1.4 with DSC to allow for 10-bit color. I am debating whether to pick up one or wait for new models with HDMI 2.1 and DP 2.0, which won't require DSC. I expect there to be more options next year given the new Ampere and RDNA2 cards. Would I be missing out on something with the LG versus waiting, and would the LG somehow not be "future proof" enough?

If you were buying a TV with no DP input, I would say wait. But since this monitor has DP 1.4, I'd say you're ok. DP 1.4 will give you 4K @ 144 Hz, perhaps the only thing it won't do down the road is the possibility of daisy-chaining your monitors in a multi-monitor setup. (Perhaps it could sit at the end of the chain?)
nVidia is releasing the RTX 3000 series with DP 1.4 so it looks like DP 2.0 is still a way's away.
 
Remember 5 years ago when we had cables for 8k 120Hz, 10/12/16bit, and also 40w power?

Man HDMI has been hot garbage for so long, holding the entire TV/monitor industry hostage.

I thought for sure that once SuperMHL was announced that we would actually make progress.

Sad that DP also decided to crap out, 2.0 should've been ready to use on the RTX / Navi cards.
 
Yeah, I was hoping that DP 2.0 would be out by now. I am really mainly concerned about DSC. I have not seen it in action and there isn't that much info about it. It's supposedly lossless, but how lossless is it really? I want a 4k 144hz monitor, but DSC seems the only way at the moment and I don't want to sacrifice image quality.
 
I wish for a good color accurate and uniform screen with no back-light bleed (or bloom) at HDR1000.

Sure would be nice to pick my native resolution and refresh rate depending on content.

Wonder how far CRTs could be if they had continued development.

Still really sad I let mine go due to living situation.
