Well after finally deciding between the LG and the Samsung 226 I went to Best Buy and gave them my hard earned cash for the LG. Zero in stock at the first store, 5 in stock at another that I had to drive to. Took it home where it replaced my trusty and beautiful Hyundai 190D+ that I had for 2 years. Great monitor and wish it was available as a wide screen. Anyhow I installed the old DVI cable to my MSI 1800XT 512 as the LG did not come with one , only VGA and started it up. Very large screen in comparison to 19". Some backlight leakage at top and little more at bottom. Installed drivers from CD with F engine. Needed to lower brightness and adjust contast. Very easy set up and well laid out. This reduced the backlight bleed where noticeable only with a pure
black screen. (XP startup only and how many times is a black screen on?)

Colors are vibrant and rich. Not one dead pixel (whew!) and looks great on my desk.
Ran Half Life 2 Loast Coast at 1650 x 1080 native resolution and it was like I was in the game for real. My 14 year old son who makes custom maps for Half Life 2 was amazed at how sharp and lifelike the game is compared to his Dell 18.1 Ultra sharp which is also another great monitor. Serious Sam 2 was amazing and no blurring or lag/smearing with fast scenes, explosions etc.. Had only about 1/2 hr to play as my favorite show 24 was about toi start.

Will report more info tonite after work with photo rendering and DVD playback

Another satisfied customer!

Good thing about the LG 226WT is that one can buy it without worrying about the A and S panel lottery in the comparable Samsung 226BW.

A couple questions for you:

If you have an NVidia videocard, can you set up a 1200x800 custom resolution, scale this in the card itself and tell how the monitor looks?

Can you confirm the monitor is able to display 1280x768 through analog input (this should be possible without custom rez and videocard scaling). How does it look at that rez?

(Yes I have bad eyes...)

Could you take photos of the screen from below, at about 20 inches viewing distance? Ideally, a series of photos from dead-on, then from progressively lower and lower would give an idea of the monitor's viewing angle sensitivity from this most unforgiving point of view.

I know I am asking a lot, but you are one of the first on this forum with this monitor. Thanks in advance for anything you can do to enlighten me and others.

Will try to do so tonite.

For those still on the fence on what to buy, my decision on the LG was based on its high review on this site, decent quality on screen at store( they all looked like crap due to vga and 20 monitors running off a deskop PC)and its looks. Samsung 226 was my choice until I saw the LG. One thing that made me go with LG was that I work next to Samsung facility in NJ. The UPS trucks stops at my office first before delivering to Samsung. Every day his truck ( the larger 5 ton truck) is filled with Samsung monitors for RMA. The majority of the boxes look new and are LCD screens of all sizes especially the 20 and 19, this made me wonder about QC control.
The Viewsonic 2235 was too tall and I did not want the speakers. Picture was good and the price was only $50.00 less then the LG. I did not want the same panel every other 22 inch in the market has. Although I buy mostly on the net. an LCD should be purchased local in case of damage or badpixels etc. for a easy return.

If that bright status LED is a problem when you sit in the dark, you can install the "Forte Manager" from CD. Options -> Energystatus..and the LED should turn off 15seconds after start.

cheers :)
