I have the 7970 version of the ghost, its dual fan though. Its under water, so the cooler was only on for a short time. When it was though, it kept the card very cool, the core was sitting around 62 load the VRM's are where the heat was. I saw 90+ on VRM's at times. It is quiet though, and XFX customer service has always been prompt and nice.

Thanks monks 62c at load is pretty nice, I imagine a 7870 will only be cooler than a 79, no?

Nice Balane :) Appreciate it.

OK, I have it installed.

The computer is in my garage, it's probably 85F in there. The card is in a Micro ATX case with two Arctic Cooling 120mm 900RPM fans, one intake, one exhaust.

The fan on the GPU is the loudest fan in my case. I couldn't hear my last card but I can hear this one. It's a muted whine at idle (37C is the idle temp.) On ramp up under load the fan is clearly audible. I wouldn't call it really loud but definitely noticeable. I wouldn't think this card would be something you would want if silence is what you're after.

I was under the impression that XFX lets a user change coolers, I believe I read that somewhere, but there are clearly two WARRANTY VOID IF REMOVED stickers over two of the screws. I didn't expect to see those so I will live with the cooling situation as it is because I don't want to void my warranty.

I haven't had a chance to overclock it yet, just not enough time but I'll do that as soon as I can.

Under load, while playing Secret World with everything on high at 1920x1200 the card peaks out at 63C

Ugh, this fan is clearly audible and it cycles up and down frequently which makes it definitely noticeable. I'm not happy with the sound levels at all. I can live with it in the garage but if it was in my office I wouldn't like it at all.

Going to try an OC it soon, performance is OK. Getting 25FPS in the above game at the above settings. I was hoping for a little better but OC will hopefully help.

^I believe in North America XFX allowed us to change the coolers even with those warranty stickers.

That MAY have changed with their latest warranty.

Yeah, it's definitely warm out there this time of the year. I don't know how low it will go if the GPU drops lower than 37C idle temp or what a good idle temp is on this card. Can I expect the fan to run slower when the idle temp goes down?

I couldn't discern the 5770 single fan noise on the card I was using in the exact same scenario but the 7850 is clearly louder.

Edit: This is the single fan XFX 2GB 7850 card, I did expect to be a little louder. I'm not trying to insult the card in any way, just reporting what I see/hear.

GPU fans are always the loudest part of a computer
never say always. even on low, my A70 cpu cooler is louder than any video card I have used in this pc if left on auto fan settings. and most of the time hard drives are the loudest parts I hear in a typical pc.

I decided to jump on this deal since the 660ti is going to be $300 + for a non-reference cooler.

If/when I sell dirt showdown I am looking at $210-220 for pretty much the same performance at 60hz and 1680x1050.

I also wanted to give amd a shot. Thanks for your help guys. Hopefully it isn't too loud.
