I have an older 720p 2ch stereo TV hooked into an old laptop only support up to 720p video. All the movies on my main PC are 1080p 5.1/7.1 audio. I'm looking for a free program that will let my main PC down convert and stream movies to the old laptop. I need .mkv support as well.

Thanks!

What is "LF"?

How about Handbrake?

Any DLNA server can do it:

XBMC
Serviio
Plex
PS3 Media Server (works with shiz other than ps3)

They all pretty much do the same thing and have transcoding on the fly.

If you like command line then just get the latest ffmpeg. I know Serviio relys on it heavily to do all the streaming in their program.

I found the commandline approach tedious but it works just as well.
