Lexus Link / Onstar

I was wondering if anyone has used or knows a lot about Lexus Link (aka Onstar). I am thinking about getting a Lexus RX330, but the new 2004 models do not come with the Lexus Link service. The reason they said was that the service was not reliable and it will be phased out of all cars in about 3-4 years. However, when I go over to the mercedes place they say that there are no problems with the service, and they use SOS, which is ran by Onstar, so they are all the same.

Is this service good? Is it analog or digital?

Any information would be great, thanks.

Andrew-

The people at the lexus place said that sometimes it does not work, and if it used for emergencies, there cannot be a risk of something not working when you need it.

I'm trying to find information online about it, but not a whole lot is coming up on google 🙁

According to this (old) article, yes, it is OnStar.

OnStar works fine AFAIK, the people at the Lexus dealership are probably just downplaying it because they want you to buy the RX330 and not see the lack of OnStar as a disadvantage vs. the competition. It's not going to work everywhere, of course.
