I was just perusing the lexus website and saw that the v6 gs350 has 303 hp while the v8 gs430 has 290hp. The gs430 v8, however, has 319ft/lb of torque, while the gs350 has 274ft/lb of torque.

I think I read somewhere that the gs430 appears to have less hp because of new measurement standards.

Both cars hit 0-60 in 5.7s and have 1/4-mile times of 14.2s.

The difference in MSRP, however, is 8k.

Do you really pay that just for some torque? Just throwing this little tidbit out there for you guys

I don't understand why they can't shoehorn the V8 from the LS into the GS.

Would that not affect both engines then?

is there no other difference b/w the two trim aside from the engine?

No, because the V8 is an old design, the V6 is very recent so it was rated on the new system to begin with. Toyo's new 3.5L V6 family is getting lots of favorable reviews.

The v6 in the gs350 is the same one from the current is350. I believe they will be bringing the 4.6L v8 from the LS to their GS line (GS460).

the V8 burble on downshifts is priceless though i'd doubt you'd hear it often if at all on the auto tranny.

Also the GS430 uses a 3UZ-FE an advancement of the 1UZ-FE which is praised for its smoothness and reliability. Thge xUZ-FE series made Wards 10 best engines list for the 20th century and in various forms labors on in many cars, reliabilty powering them past 200, 300k miles without a problem with reports of up to 500k miles no clublexus.com forums. (though the 2GR-FSE 3.5L V6 has been on wards 10 best engines list for 2006 & 2007). Either way the 1UZ/3UZ are excellent engines (the 2UZ is a truck motor) and may warrant that extra look.

That and there is no decent luxury carmaker with a sports sedan without at least a V8 motor as an option. Many publications point to that as the reason the Acura RL sales have been so sluggish. V8=Prestiege.

I drove an '06 gs300 (dealership loaner while other car was getting serviced) today and it was a fun, speedy ride :)

..does their v8 still have that fabric/rubber belt driving the OH cams?? Why don't they replace that thing with chains? It's not going to be that much noiser but a whole lot more reliable.
