Lexmark z51 in USB?

I recently bought a demo model of the lexmark z51 that did not come with the usb or printer cable. Figuring that USB was better I bought a generic cable to hook it up to my win 98 system. Well when I plugged in the printer windows recognized it as a Z51 but said it did not have drivers. I downloaded the appropriate ones from lexmark but whenever I try to use it says it is not connected. The printer works with a regular printer cable from my other printer but i would like to use it through usb.
Any help is greatly appreciated
thanks in advance

I think it's always better to use a "regular" printer cable (IEEE) since it incorporates the ECP port which is much better to print with then USB. The USB is primarily there for MAC compatability.

If you can't get USB to work, then just forget about it and get a IEEE cable.

Thanks for the reply but I have another printer that can only use the printer port that I would like to have connected as well
