Its a good printer. Ink costs an arm & a leg for ALL printers today because that's how they make their money. They sell the printers below cost and give you warnings that "you can only buy ink from us!!!!" so they'll get their money back.

Lexmark quality doesn't compare with Epson. You can pick up the Epson 777 shipped for $99 and less with online coupons from OM, etc. The best part is they don't have their print head in the cartridge so you can pick up generics for about $5/$8 black/color.

Your comments are off based regarding cheap inks and the Epson 777. The newer Epsons use a different ink cart than the 770/860, etc. I've contacted both sources I've used for my cheap 860 carts and they tell me there is no generic carts for the 777. Epson has a patent on the cart and therefore you won't be seeing any cheap carts for the 777 printer. For the price, I'd stick with the 860 as the price difference will be made up quickly with the cheaper inks :)

Inkjet cartridges are ridiculously expensive. You can almost buy a new printer for a couple of replacements. If you are itemizing your tax deductions, you might as well donate you inkjet to your favorite charity for a deduction. You can claim the MSRP. Since most printers sell for less than half their MSRP, every one benefits:
1. you get a new printer for essentially the cost of ink
2. your charity gets a donation
3. the economy gets a boost from the sales of a new printer to you, sales of new cartridges to your charity

The price for this printer is going for over a $100. So $80 is a great price for this one!

Dont mean to sound like I'm ripping on you but for anyone who has a Costco membership, they have it for 64.99 and in the box it includes both the color and black and white cartridge.

As much as its great for peeps to post these printer deals, it really isnt needed. Everyone knows hows to add a coupon to a purchase at staples. Unless a real nice printer(such as hp982) is like ~50 its not worth telling people to use a coupon. Warm at best.

Thanks for the info. Didn't know you couldn't get the cheap inks for the 777. Should've researched before I posted. Guess Epson finally got "smart"/greedy as the rest of 'em.

gogeeta13 in a way you're right, but in a way you're wrong. There are sometimes when even after you apply a coupon (i.e. at Staples), you can still get it for the same price at another store without a coupon. But in this case after you apply the coupon, this is the cheapest price you can get it for. Therefore, it is worth mentioning that with the $20 off coupon this is the cheapest you can get it for.

I have an older Z31 (1200x1200 dpi) and am still using the original ink carts (tri-color and black). Refill kits are the only way to go.

Its over a year old, and no problems yet.

it's going for $69 after instant rebate or whatever they call it at Costco. They had several palates of them when I saw them last Sunday @ downtown SF location (close to Van Ness?). Curious how they make it $69 w/o any rebates...

TO make the deal better at CostCo..

make sure to get the box with the sticker that states (extra black cartride)

Me and my fellow admin sorted through the boxed because we couldn't figure out why some had that sticker and others didnt..

it paid of though.. his came with 2 black and 1 color cartridge..

good luck

With my Z52 and using Color+Photo ink carts,
The output at 2400x1200 dpi is kick-ass!!!

The output looks like continous tone. And glossy paper makes them look like photos.

I ended up getting the Z52 cause it was overall faster.

It soon to be replacement is either an epson 980, Lex Z42, or HP 930/932...
