I have a Lexmark X1150 PrinTrio printer, and after finally upgrading to Windows SP2 (held out a long time), it stopped functioning. It said there were no drivers present. So I uninstalled the old drivers and software, downloaded them again from Lexmark.com. Upon installing them, I got this error message:

16-bit MS-DOS Subsystem
path to the program that you are trying to start or install
C:\Windows\System32\Autoexec.nt The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications. Choose 'Close' to terminate the application.

So I refer to Lexmark.com for answers. Their solution?

Errors During Printer Installation After Upgrading to Windows XP Service Pack 2 ID:ENUS15505

If you try to install older software after upgrading to Windows XP Service Pack 2, you may receive an error message.

Microsoft are aware of this issue and have placed a fix on their website. For details, please click here (microsoft.com) and refer to article 324767.

Lovely. I go there, and here's the direct link

http://support.microsoft.com/d...x?scid=kb;en-us;324767

Reading that, it seems only to pertain to CD-ROM installs, whereas my install would be from Lexmark's zip file. I already tried it just for kicks, and it doesnt work.

I then emailed Lexmark Tech Support and got this age old standard reply:

This issue appears to be with the operating system rather than the printer
driver. I request you to contact your PC manufacturer to get the issue
resolved.

So, my question is, does anyone know how to get this ugly thing to work? Besides tossing it out the window and buying from a company that uses normal (read: stuff that works with Windows XP SP2) software installs? Thanks in advance again guys, you're life savers :)
