emanon is right. This is **not** a USB CF card reader, it's just a replacement "Jumpshot" cable. This might be useful for anyone w/ a Lexar "usb enabled" CF card, but it **won't** work with other brands of CFs (which aren't "usb enabled&quot😉.

You might want to edit your title to accurately reflect what this critter is.

Well, I have a Jumpshot usb cable from Lexar, and it reads Kington CF, Lexar CF, and some off-brand generic CF I have.

I think they just mean it won't work with earlier model CF cards (pre 4x).

Correct?

AFAIK, it's not a Lexar or speed issue. Instead, jumpshot cables only work with "usb enabled" CF cards.

There was a discussion here recently about this, and if I recall, the consensus was only Lexar offered "usb enabled" stuff. If other vendors are now on board, it's great for users. You are talking about a jumpshot cable, and not a USB CF reader, right? I hope so -- more options for us.
 
central the jumpshot isnt the same thing as a cf usb reader. it only works with lexar cf cards. the jumpshot ONLY reads usb enabled cards, and lexar is the only one that makes them. it's frickin fast though. i really like mine. some non-usb cards will work in the reader but dont count on it (my kodak one doesnt, but a kingston one does). you cannot buy this and get it to work without a lexar card because the drivers needed to install it are on the lexar cf card. still a good deal though. i may grab one, one for the home one for another pc.

and use it with other cards? I installed the drivers with no problems, but can't really test it beyond that as I do not have the Jumpshot cable.
 
agreed, this is Proprietary hardware first off. They have been including gratis cable w/flash cards and rebates, too. It's all on inside back cover DigitalCamera mag. Also, there are CF and CF2 cards. Maybe this is diff.
 
I use one of these and a lexar 32mb card with my camera, works AWESOME and very fast. it writes to cards as well if you wanna take mp3s to a friends house or somethin 🙂
 
That's what I have ---the USB jump cable that came with my 48mb lexar card. It works with Kingston and a generic CF that I have, no problems. In fact, until I read this post, I never thought it was an issue --- it reads all my CF cards without a problem.

I think if you have a new CF card, it'll work. I can't imagine a manufacturer not making a CF card USB compatible!

No. Entirely different critters.

Getting really confused here. Every CF card I'm aware of is "USB compatible" when you either: 1) hook your camera to a PC via a USB cable; 2) put your CF card into a USB reader (e.g., Sandisk's); or, 3) plug your CF into a "jumpshot" cable. (Some cameras also offer a s-l-o-w serial-port hookup to read CF cards.)

But not every CF card is "USB enabled" -- Lexar's term to describe it's proprietary CF cards.

If you've found that Lexar's JumpShot cable works with other vendors' CF cards, something significant has happened in the CF market -- other vendors have jumped on (licensed) Lexar's "USB enabled" technology, eliminating the need for CF readers.

Here's a link to Buy.Com's Sandisk CF reader. Is this what you're using? Or are you using something that looks fundamentally different?

Note "Lexar USB enabled" and "Lexar only!!". Enlighten please.
