Lexar JumpDrive problem

I just purchased a 64mb Lexar JumpDrive from Office Max. When I plug it into my computer, I get a message that I've plugged in a removable drive (it calls it a JumpDrive, even) but when I go into Windows Explorer, I don't see the drive and the computer locks up. I'm plugging the JD into my 4 port USB hub which works fine with my scanner and printer. I've tried plugging the JD directly into a port on the back of the computer but can't seem to get it aligned properly to allow insertion. I took the JD to work and it works fine on several of the computers at work. At home, I'm running WinXP Pro on an MSI Bxmaster w/Pentium III 550E o/c to 733, 384 mb ram.. Does anyone have any ideas as to what is causing the problem?

So wait, you didn't try it directly into a USB port on your home computer? There's no reason it shouldn't fit. Try again, if it works fine, then the hub is your problem.

The back of my computer is hard to get to. (Too much junk on the desktop.) I can remove and insert the cable for my digital camera by feel without seeing the back of the case but for some reason I don't seem to be able to fit the JumpDrive in that way. Possibly the other USB cable (to the hub) is getting in the way. I guess I'll have to clear off some space and turn the case around and see if it works. If it works plugged directly in but not plugged into the hub I'll try a short USB extension and see if that works. Then, I'd be able to switch between my digital camera cable and the JumpDrive more easily. The JumpDrive is a neat little gadget for sneakernetting files between my computer and my wifes (or between mine at home and the one at work) so I really hope I can get it working properly.

Well, I mangaged to clear enough space to turn the computer around. It turns out there isn't enough room around the USB ports for the JumpDrive to fit even with a good view of the ports. The keyboard cable is just above the USB ports and the serial port is just below. I could relocate the serial connector to the secondary serial port but there is nothing I can do about the keyboard connector. I guess my next step is to get a USB extension and plug that in and see what happens.

OK, now I've tried a straight USB extension cable and the computer still locks up. When I plug the JumpDrive into the extension cable, I get a pop-up on the menu-bar that says "New Hardware Recognized - JumpDrive" and the system locks up. I noticed when I hooked up the JumpDrive on a Win2K system at work I got three pop-up messages. The second two came up to quick for me to read them but I'm only getting the one message on my XP Pro system. Does anyone have any ideas what could be the problem? The jump drive works fine on at least three other systems I've tried it with.
