I just bought this one at Target. It's clearence. So hurry b4 it all gone. The model # is RW007-255. It looks like RW007-001 except the model #. 001 is $90 at Bestbuy, $70 at Walmart.Strangely I can't get any info from Lexar site about 225. Target at Northridge CA. still has 5 of RW007-255.

I can confirm same in Winston Salem. Saw it last night. Same price on the clearance endcap. Not a bad deal but there are some CF/SM readers out there for ~50 bucks. Lexar Media's site

Does it read both compact flash and smartmedia cards? Is that USB or parallel?

Our local Target did not have Lexar stuff, but I was able to
pick up a Sandisk USB compactflash card reader for <$15 on
clearance...about half what everyone else is asking for them.

I stand corrected.

Universal Reader FAQs
Q: Why does my system hang at the Windows Shutdown Screen?
A: First, make sure the USB cable is disconnected from the USB. Next, go to the Control Panel, and click on ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS. Look for the Iomega Tools for Windows 95, and highlight the Iomega Tools. Click on the ADD/REMOVE TAB, and this will remove the tools. Restart the system. This will not have any effect on the reader or the Iomega Zip drive.

Q: Where can I get the driver to support Windows 2000?
A: Just visit our Web site at www.lexarmedia.com, and download the driver version 4.3.

Q: How and where do I insert the SmartMedia card?
A: Look on the front of the reader under the larger PCMCIA slot, and you will see the thin slot for the SmartMedia card. Then insert the card with the gold inlays facing downward.

Q: Why Doesn't Windows NT support USB?
A: Windows NT 4.0 does not have USB capability, however Windows 2000 will incorporate the support for USB devices.

Q: I have a Memory Stick how do I get it to work with the Universal Serial Bus Reader?
A: You would need to get a Sony PC-Card adapter model MSAC-PC1 for the device to work with the Universal Serial Bus Reader.

Q: How do I access my images?
A:

Double click on 'My Computer' or open Windows Explorer.
Look for a new 'Removable Disk' drives Icon.
The Pictures are in a folder inside this drive.
Copy the pictures to a folder on you Hard Disk or other storage device.

Q: Can I use a 5volt SmartMedia card in the USB Universal Serial Bus Reader?
A: Yes the USB Universal Serial Bus Reader supports 3 volt & 5volt SmartMedia cards.

Q: The USB Universal Serial Bus Reader displays two 'REMOVABLE DRIVE'S' can I copy from one removable drive to the other removable drive?
A: Yes
Example: Select the files in the removable drive click on EDIT select COPY. Then go to the other removable drive open it, go to EDIT select PASTE the files will be copied over.

I went to two Targets last night and none of them carried any Lexar Digital Film Reader, all they had were the Sandisk readers. Anyone else found one in their area?

I picked up two of these the other day; one for me, the other for my girlfriend. Man, I wish I hadn't. It seems to read CompactFlash without a problem, but I couldn't get it to read any of my THREE SmartMedia cards! (Yes, I inserted them correctly :D)

On top of that, it crapped on my perfect Win2K Server installation. I get messages that a service or driver failed on startup, and I've tracked it to the following services (which don't show in event viewer, incidentally):
"SAUSBFW" "KERNEL_DRIVER " "AUTO_START"
"SAUSBHW" "KERNEL_DRIVER " "AUTO_START"
"sglfb" "KERNEL_DRIVER " "SYSTEM_START"

So I unplug the device, uninstall the drivers, and remove the entries in "Removable Storage." Same errors at startup. Tried the second one I bought (both in sealed boxes) - same problem.

Didn't read SmartMedia in Win98 either... On top of that, I'd already sold my SanDisk CF reader (which Win2K supports natively!)

Maybe there's a reason these are on clearance.

Perplexer - OUCH.

I have two of the SanDisk USB CF readers, the SDDR-31, they are just awesome. Most problem-free USB device I have ever used. Windows 2000 has native Microsoft drivers and it just works right. Makes me not mind having a pile of 16MB / 32MB cards instead of the desired two 128MB card :)

Too bad you sold yours.
