Don't mean to rain on anyone's parade, BUT...

The offer number for the $40 rebate fron Newegg and the $18 rebate offered at Buy.com are the same.

The receipt that prints out from buy.com shows an $18 rebate.

The retailers mentioned on the Newegg rebate form, except for Newegg, show an $18 rebate rather than a $40 rebate.

Newegg was called and said that their computer shows the rebate as being $18 not $40.

Lexar was called and said that the offer was for $18 on this drive.

:( :(

I went to lexars site, and it linked me to pricegrabber.com which shows the rebate as $40 for Buy.com.

Currently its the number 1 selling item at Buy.com, and Buy.com shows it as a $18 rebate, so I am guessing that somebody goofed someplace, but I am in for one and will just wait to see what happens when people wake up in the morning. Deal is hot enough that it has to be attracting somebodies attention.

making what I did a bit more clear.

www.lexar.com
selected SD cards.
Clicked the check online prices link for 1GB.
Javascript took me to pricegrabber.com where it showed the rebate as merchant restricted, but $40 and the Buy.com link on list of merchants showed the same .pdf that is on newegg.

Rebate offer #H55420

One note though is that this is apparently a 1x card, too slow for many uses.

No thats good news, if they "cut off the deal" those that got in early enough may actually get it.

Buy.com sent me an email saying the rebate was a mistake, I emailed them back and they said talk to rebate-zone (www was worthless, but phone was free and not a long delay for a person).

CSR took my name etc., read the same oops some other store posted the rebate showing buy.com without authorization.
I told her I got my rebate from a link on the lexar site, not a competitors, and we went back and forth a bit.
CSR then said, send in the rebate I have ($40) and it will be escalated to a supervisor and processed.

She didn't really say, yes I will get it, just kept repeating supervisor and processed. I "think" that means that if I filled it out completely etc etc. I get the $40, but enough doubt and my wife saying WTF did you buy that for (old 512MB is fine for her palm she says), so I emailed buy.com about returning it (what their original email suggested) and I plan to just do whichever seemed the least troublesome.

mikeford, why not do both

How about because it's dishonest? I'm all about getting the rebates that are misprints and such, but buying something, returning it, and still claiming the rebate? Come on...

Not to mention that both require the original UPC, but stealing just isn't right except from microsoft or the riaa.

omg, before you leap..check out the speed

Data Transfer Rate
150KBps Write Sustained Minimum 1X - (host to flash)
Up to 12MBps Burst (to/from host)

EDIT: Hmm, guess I read it wrong. How does this compare to other cards that just give a single write speed?

Double EDIT: Nevermind, the rebate from Newegg expired Feb 28
