Letters on new LCD TV have reddish/green shadow

Hey guys, trying to figure out what the deal is with my new LCD TV display. My HTPC is hooked up to a Samsung LN52A650 via DVI --> HDMI. I'm noticing that the letters (especially the tiny ones) all seem to have this reddish/multi-colored shadow, but red's the most prominent.

More than that though, is red colors seem to have a bluish-black shadow everywhere on the screen. For example, I opened up MS Paint, selected the thinnest red pencil I could, and drew a line. It ends up looking like a mix of black with red shadows, it's really weird. It's like red is offset somehow? But how would that be the case with an LCD? I don't have this problem with any of the other three LCD computer screens I own.

Is this normal? Am I doing something wrong? Should I be concerned? What can I do?

what resolution are you running the dvi output? are you matching the tv's native resolution?

What video card are you using?

Running it at 1920x1080 (p), the TV's native resolution, to my knowledge. Using an MSI 8600 GT.

Tried switching it to VGA. I could still see a little bit of the red blurring, but everything was less clear, so it was less pronounced overall. But still present.

Opened up MS Paint on my desktop LCD, drew some thin red lines in it also, and it was perfectly clear, unlike the LCD TV! I don't understand...any ideas?

you need to play with the colour profiles and contrast sharpness so that your tv's output matches the monitor's

If after proper calibration you still have problem, then I would worry. Remember the only redemming value of TVs are just size, their image quality is no where near monitor's.

does it look blurry or just the color issues you mentioned?

When you say you are going from DVI --> HDMI, are you using a dvi cable with an adapter or something like this: http://www.monoprice.com/produ...id=2284&seq=1&format=2 ?

I only ask because I had issues using a DVI cable with a Monster DVI --> HDMi (was desperate that time and couldn't wait for monoprice) adapter and the quality was very shitty. But after I got a cable like the one I linked above all thsoe issues went away...

Couple of thoughts. The sharpness setting could be off causing false blurring. The aspect ratio might be incorrect (aka Overscan) causing zooming which would probably cause the problem. Make sure your is in 0 overscan mode and your video card is also in 0 overscan mode. For some reason the bright minds at NVIDIA/ATI thought it was smart to scale the screen down like 10% automatically when it detects and HDTV to fight overscan, rather than make a person who needs the feature find it (1% of users probably) and let everyone else just use no scan mode.

IIRC for Samsung TV's to get 0 overscan on HDMI cables you have to rename the input to PC first and then it will allow you to do the "Just Scan" option.

Elganja, I'm using a DVI --> HDMI cable like you linked to (it's a cheap Rosewill brand from NewEgg). It definitely made it look sharper than the DVI --> VGA.

I've got the TV on the Just Scan option, and my video card is at 1920x1080 (so that should mean it's not in overscan then, right?). It doesn't look too blurry otherwise, it's just the color issues - the letters really have red and green tints around the edges, and red seems to really have a blackish shadow when it's in a thin line or a font. I'll see if I can find some way to get a picture of it and post it - I just have nothing else to compare it to other than my LCD monitors. In the meantime, I'll also play with the sharpness and color settings, and if you guys have any other thoughts, let me know...

did you turn off edge enhancement on the tv? is it one of those 120hz models? If so can you turn it off?
