I keep getting these.

Have been lazy to deal with this. What happens if they go unanswered?

you should contact them if it's a mistake, you certainly don't want to drag down your credit history for future purchases, ie car or home

Monto is right, your credit could be ruined. The problem won't go away. Give them a call.

if it's not a large sum, most likely nothing will happen---if you're looking at more than 500.00 you could eventually have your wages garnished. That's according to my friend that used to work at a collection agency.

edit: what I meant by nothing will happen is that they will eventually sell the debt to another agency and they will send letters, and the process repeats until eventually one of the agencies WILL go to court and garnish your wages if need be.

We just sent close to $50,000 worth of claims to an agency with probably another $50,000 in the next few months. Its amazing how many people completely skip out on medical bills.

Pay the bills, it will ruin your credit.

your credit is probably already ruined if it went to collections. 7 years baybee.

How do I appeal these things?

Columbia House is making up a load of BS and keep sending me stupid threatening letters. It'd be really dumb if my credit gets ruined over a few CDs.

I contacted them and they told me it was fine now. Then 2 weeks later, they send me another BS letter. I'm fed up with them.

Your credit history is only tarnished if you give them your social security number when you do business with them. If you leave Columbia House or Blockbuster lingering for a while and it's not a large some of money, they will just keep sending you letters and at some point, they write if off as a bad debt.
