Letterman makes $30+ million a year???

I KNOW THIS STORY HAS BEEN PUBLISHED. However, I'd like to point out that I NEVER KNEW LETTERMAN made $30 million a year!!!!

Is that true?

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, but sources last week said CBS had agreed to bump Letterman's annual salary from about $30 million to $31.5 million a year and to continue paying an additional $40 million annually to license rights to the show from Worldwide Pants

It's up there, but he does a lot more shows.

That isn't that much really. Each of the Friends cast gets $1 million per episode, and there are what, 24 episodes per season? I thought he would have gotten more as well.

I like Dave (I was a huge fan for years in high school especially), but I find this just amazing. I was amazed when he signed with CBS for $16M/yr. about ten years ago, and continue to be flabbergasted by his salary. I frankly don't think his job is a tough one at all, and while I think he is funny I don't think he is the funniest man alive. On the other hand, IMO Johnny Carson did not have a funny bone in his body and he made a mint too . . . If he had any huevos he would syndicate his own show and make Oprah money.

CBS makes a LOT more than that - more like $200M/yr. Nightline actually puts up better ratings, but Letterman has a much younger demographic, so he can bill a lot more for advertising.
