Letterman's a disgusting-looking old man, I don't understand why anyone would want to go to bed with him, not even his wife TBH. Only reason those women did it was because he's rich, and they thought he'd shower them with expensive gifts and whatnot.

He's not even particulary funny. It's a sad day Leno quit despite being a million times more talented, and that schmuck's still around boring his audience to death every weekday night.

Your post says more about you (that's not a good reflection) than about him.

Some people are attracted to more than the physical, which may make no sense to you.

There are third explanations as well - power is not entirely unattractive to many women. The repulsive Henry Kissinger said it's the 'ultimate aphrodisiac' based on his womanizing.

(I consider the mental images of him naked with a young woman he scarred people with there one of his worse crimes).

Heh so true. Letterman's a hack. At least we have Conan and Leno (dunno how Leno's show is doing in the ratings TBH).

Not really, IMO.

Would you giv $2 million to a blackmailer over something that you might not want to admit (and which he didn't before this), but which doesn't look att *that* bad? Most woudln't.

And once he's not going to, his choice is just whether to announce the news himself or let the media hear it from the blackmailer, and every media expert would say, do the former.

It's like a politician hearing his adultery will be exposed 'courageously' announcing it first.

Bah, Letterman's a talkshow host who, as far as I know, doesn't dig into people off-air. He had an affair, so what?

As far as the extortionist: I hope someone kicks him in the nuts for being an asshole.

And the $2M was issued as part of the investigation.
*snip*n investigation ended in the arrest Thursday after Letterman issued a phony $2 million check to keep the matter silent.

You didn't answer my question. Not many would want to pay a criminal like this, and would much prefer to send them to jail, as he's doing. The blackmailer was an immoral idiot IMO.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/200...tv_letterman_extortion

"Robert J. "Joe" Halderman, a producer for the true-crime show "48 Hours," was arrested Thursday and indicted on one count of attempted first-degree grand larceny, punishable from five to 15 years upon conviction, District Attorney Robert Morgenthau said.

"Our concern here is extortion, and that's what we're focusing on," Morgenthau said.

The district attorney's office said Halderman left a letter and other material for Letterman early Sept. 9. He wrote that he needed "to make a large chunk of money" by selling letterman a screenplay treatment.

The letter told Letterman that his world was "about to collapse around him" when information about his private life is disclosed. He said it would lead to "a ruined reputation" and severe damage to his professional and family life.

Letterman immediately contated his lawyer, who arranged a meeting with Halderman. At the meeting, Halderman demanded $2 million for not releasing the material, the district attorney's office said. After the meeting, Letterman and his lawyer contacted the DA's office and the investigation began."

Then, from the link provided by Ausm:

"Birkitt, Letterman's former assistant who has made several appearances on the "Late Show," lived with alleged blackmailer Robert "Joe" Halderman, who allegedly "was in possession of Birkitt's diary, correspondence and photos -- which he says incriminated Letterman,"

What a stupid way to fuck up a decent career. Maybe the guy has a future writing the "Tell-All column" for the Attica Prison newspaper...

Who, Letterman or the blackmailer? If you mean the blackmailer:

You're the slime ball. Edwards has fought for great things for our country, to help the poor, despite his shortcomings in his personal life, his bad behavior there.

You are the enemy of good policies.

You fight against the well being of the poor and other Americans. Edwards didn't blackmail anyone the way this guy did, you are the slime-ball for the baseless off-topic attack here.

I think blackmailing is better than cheating on your dying wife in a motel and having a love-child, but hey, to each their own.

Apparently, this all took place years ago so I don't see what the big deal is. He wasn't married, he wasn't a father yet ....

Fixed. Of course there's no partisan reason you didn't mention Newt Gingrich instead.

Aye... What the HELL was the dude thinking? So it's not the flashiest of jobs perhaps, but it HAD to have been a more than decent income. Now he's flushed all that down the john.

Greedy swine like that extortionist is the reason so many people lose faith in humanity. Not only did that person's desire for money outweigh his own personal sense of morals and decency, his desire for OTHER PEOPLE'S money outweighed his sense of morals and decency...

So not only is he a greedy scumbag with no conscience, he's a greedy thieving scumbag too.

Personally I feel there ought to be a law that bars greedy criminals from ever possessing even a dime for the rest of their lives. Bereaving them of that which they desire the most - money - is the best punishment for them.

Maybe the guy has a future writing the "Tell-All column" for the Attica Prison newspaper...
Rofl! Yeah, that's probably his sole carreer path that remains open for him now.

Doesn't change the fact that Edwards is a complete and utter dirtbag. Anyone who can't tell that just by listening to him talk for 5 seconds is hopeless.

Funny, I get the same feeling about you from two sentences. That 'dirtbag' dares to want to make things better for the poor and middle class. You are his enemy.
