Letter I sent to the Michigan Daily **I MADE IT INTO THE PAPER!!**

😀

Governor Jennifer Granholm told Michigan residents on Tuesday night to "look
about" themselves if they seek a leaner, more efficient government. And today,
as I ran down South University Avenue to catch a bus, I caught sight of the
expansive President's house, and found myself wondering what President Mary Sue
Coleman was doing to help make the U-M more efficient.

It surely can't be much, seeing as how Coleman accepted a $200,000 'bonus' last
year in addition to her $475,000 annual salary. I urge our president to take a
symbolic pay cut as a gigantic (and long overdue) first step toward University
efficiency.

Such a move would help convince U-M students that Coleman is serious about her
intentions to make the U a financially secure institution. Coleman's
acceptance of such a large compensation package makes it difficult to accept
the U-M's recent tuition increases as simply 'facts of life.' Some members of
the U-M community are currently living much better than others.

Given their annual revenue in the $3.5B+ range, the influence proper leadership has far exceeds the $675K compensation package.

Good leadership is expensive.

Get over it.

Good leadership is expensive, and her pay cut won't make a difference in the U's budget, but if we're all supposed to take a hit in the form of higher tuition and cancelled classes, I think a SYMBOLIC pay cut by our president is a great way to convince the U community that we're actually moving somewhere.

It will only convince those who believe the things you wrote:

Sounds like 1) Jealousy, and 2) Socialism.

how much is lloyd carr getting paid?
More than he should be, IMHO. But Coleman represents the administrative wing of the U-M, while Carr represents the athletic wing. Coleman should be the first to take a hit, as academic and athletic budgets are completely different.

i think as the first pay cutting measure they should fire lloyd carr and hire solich

As bad as Lloyd Carr is, at least we can take solace in the fact that at least he isn't Mack Brown. 🙂

How about a SYMBOLIC pay cut from your football coach to convince the country that your school cares more about academics than athletics.
