Let's talk home theater seating...

Do any of you guys have any nice home theater specific seating? I'm referring to a style of seating kind of like this:

Just curious what brand you have, things you like and don't like, advice you'd give for someone who is about to purchase some, what you would do differently if you could purchase again, etc.

In my case, I'm looking for a seat, love seat, seat in a curved configuration. O|OO|O as an example.

I did find something at a local furniture store (Haverty's) but don't like how they implemented the power recline. I'm still looking local but have a feeling I will need to buy online so if you have any suggestion on vendors you've worked with let me know.

I have the 4 individual seating set that I ordered off a AVS Forum vendor awhile back. Can't remember the name of the company though. These aren't powered, just spring loaded. They've held up pretty well so far but that's because I have no kids and we rarely watch much tv. I did have 2 bass shakers mounted under the 2 middle seats that helped intensify the LFE during movies.

One thing that bugs me is that the headrest part is too puffy and causes your neck to bend slightly forward. Sitting with no recline or first level of recline your neck can get a little strain after sitting for awhile.

If I was to buy again I'll get one with a flatter headrest and a love seat setup in the middle for cuddling with the SO. Power recline is nice if you want exact control of how much recline you want.

i have some and love them. i have the berkline 12000 seats in the O\|OOO|/O setup. i got the power recliners and leather as well. i got a pretty good deal on them from i think a closeout type of deal. it was $2400 shipped for all 5.

we went with the "couch" look in the middle because 95% of the time down there it's just me and my wife and we wanted to snuggle. we also wanted it to be "couch" like for when we had nephews over and kids could go like 4-5 across the middle. we've done that a few times and it's worked out just great. we've had 4 adults go across as well. but typically if i'm there, i'm not sharing my seat with anyone!

tbh there really is not a thing i would change. i love the seats and how comfortable they are. my buddy who stayed over on NYE went down there so i could show him the xbox1 on there, and he fell asleep in one of the end chairs. i woke him up when i went up to sleep so he could go upstairs on the couch, but he didn't want to and just slept in the chair reclined. they are extremely comfortable.

i actually did test out some of the palisade chairs at a local store too. even tested out some at haverty's when we bought our couch there. the palisades were pretty firm and not quite as soft as i would have liked. the ones i have are noticeably software and more comfortable to me. but also, they were firmer initially until they were broken in a bit, but still not as firm as the palisades i tried out at some stores. my middle seat is definitely more "worn in" than the outer seats just because i always sit there.

i also asked around about the LED lights and stuff and most of the consensus was that they are neat looking, but they can be a bit distracting while watching. so i opted out of getting those.

one thing i wanted to make sure about as well was that the leg part comes all the way out before the headrest starts to go back. i asked about that and that is how mine were so i was cool with that. i think that may just be pretty standard too though on these types of seats, i'm not 100% sure.

i guess the only downside is that there is no cupholder in my seat (the middle seat) and my wife and i have drinks usually when watching stuff. but i either just hold it in my hand or put it in the cup holder on the seat over, and just reach over to get it when i want a sip. it's not really that big of a deal. when we have people over for a football game and i'm in the middle with people next to me on both sides, i'll just hold it in my hand though. that is really the only "negative" i can think of.

oh, and i would STRONGLY recommend power recliner over manual. it's worth the extra money. once you use it regularly you will understand hah.

here's my chairs.

I am home, I don't want theatre seating. I prefer a big couch I can lie down on if I want to.

you do "lie down" on theater seats basically when they are reclined. it's more comfortable than lying down on a couch watching since your whole body is actually facing the tv instead of being sideways with your head sideways or at an angle with your neck turned.

at least to me it is, as i do both all of the time lol.

I find recliners not as comfortable, it's a neck thing.

berkline filed for bankruptcy last yr or so, and Ashley owns the berkline name now. I'd avoid berkline, as Ashley is a low end brand.

Thanks for the heads up. Would probably make sense for them to leverage that and put some seating in their showrooms but my local one has absolutely nothing but a single. Oh well!

yeah i guess that is why the berkline were on closeout when i got them due to their bankruptcy.

and after having them for a year, i'd buy them again in a heartbeat.

My HT room is only 10 feet wide, so I went with a dual recliner with center console for remotes and cupholders. Then stuck a sofa on the riser for the 2nd row.

This is similar to what I have for the recliners.

It's not marketed as home theater specific seating, but, it serves the purpose pretty well. Only thing I would change is I would move the head rest forward a bit, otherwise you sort of recline and stare at the ceiling. But, considering the price is about 1/2 "per seat" vs many of the higher end/dedicated theater seats, I'm VERY happy.
