Lets talk about starcraft!

Somone else posted about it, and it brings back memories, for those that have played it, what did you find the most fun?

Personally i liked to backstab in 3v3 0clutter games or 7v1comp games. Peoples reactions never get old, manipulating emm too, thats always fun

Me -"I think RED! is the bser! Look at his DEFENCES on the map!! Hes totally preparing to ATTACK us!!"

Newb -"Yea lets get red you guys!"

Red dies 5 minutes later hehe.

I think starcraft has stayed new for all these years simply due to the fact that it is so well balanced, and its harldly a difficult game to master or make maps for. The community is constantly releasing new maps all the time, which is a massive part of its popularity IMO. For those of you that have never played UMS, go do it, you'll love it. Play the thing Version black. Overall i think that has been my fav part of starcraft, the inventive UMS maps. Theyre really clever for the most part.

I think the money maps ruined the pace of the game and strategy. It's still fun though. I miss bounds and evolves.

sc officially ruined my life, as soon as I got cable back when 1.09 was released. If you've ever spent any time in scn east during that period you probably knew me. Easily the greatest strategy game to date, and one of the best MP games. Vanilla is dead but BW is still goin pretty strong.

I always played 3v5 comps, on green valleys 🙂 that was the shiznit. Also loved the SmashTV maps. But that was back in 1999... Think I might just fire it up again 😀

If anybody follows or is interested in the professional gaming scene in Korea, it's tough to find a better English-speaking site than TeamLiquid.net for news, live reports, and even the ability to watch games if you're willing to put up with the difference in time zones. It's also a good place for semi-pro replays, strategy talk, and finding folks of a similar skill level to play games against.

PGTour.net is a good place for games, as well, assuming you're of pretty high skill level. I doubt it's appropriate for the typical Anandtech poster, though.

Not true. That's the WarCraft version of SC. They've modified it to look 3D. It has nothing to do with Starcraft 2.

im sure this has been covered over and over, but is there any possibility of sc2 seeing daylight?

I'd be surprised if they never make Starcraft II. It probably will be at least four more years, but it's got to come out eventually.

I hope they don't make an SC2, it'd ruin what we have.

It might improve on what we have. Starcraft unfortunately wont last forever, itll die evetually. might take 5 years might take 20, so they really should bring out SC2. I wanna know what happens! Whats the deal with the hybrids? Whos Duran working for? Are the xel naga not completely extinct? Will the UED come back? What happens to the protoss? So many unanswered questions.

Yeah...the balance that Blizzard achieved with the three races in SC is amazing. I seriously hope they make a SC2 because playing SC in 640x480 sucks:frown:.

C&C Generals > Starcraft

I dont think so! That's what I hate about modern RTS, all the races looks the same. (Yeah I know different units/strength and all that, but...there's no variety) SC on the other hand, had 3 completely different races that had their own unique gameplay styles and looks. (Zerg had the creeps, hatchery build all the units, and quantity over quality style. Protoss had the pylon and 1 probe build every building, each units are expensive & takes up supply but strong. Terran had a more traditional building style, but has mobile buildings.) But it looks like Rise of Legends is going to change that, it seems that it has 3 very different races.

Another thing that stands out for me about SC is the unit balance. The first tier units (Zerglings, Marines and Zealots) are useful through out the whole game, not just the beginning like most RTS, where the first tier units are useless in long games.

loved lurker drops before the later patches

What happened in the later patches? I always played 3v3 money maps where a nydus was the most advanced zerg tactic, lurker drops were "rushing" usually and i would get tanked for it. So i never did it.
