When asked why would you want to use STP in a switch lan environment, what would be the correct answer ? and why ?
a. To prevent switching loops in network with redundant switched path ?
b. To Prevent routing loops in network with redundant routes ?

Since STP is a layer 2 protocol, i think the answer should be A. But according to a few online resources out there, even cisco, STP is used to prevent routing loops.

if such question arise in one of cisco exams, what would be the correct answer ?

Thanks

a, because it's an L2 operation as you said (switching and bridging are the same thing for Ethernet). Routing is an L3 operation. Any online resource that tells you that STP is used to prevent routing loops is not using the correct terms.
