Are there any snakes that, if they miss, would curl up and then launch themselves into the air towards their victim's neck or head, for another kill shot?

No. (lol) :tearsofjoy:

Although there IS this little sweetheart! ;)

It wasn't "attacking", but defending itself. I likely stepped very near it or possibly on it, which was perceived as a threat. It took off one way, and I the other.

A friend got a bite on the back of the hand by a copperhead while getting some firewood on a cool evening. It did a number on him. He had debilitating pain in the hand and arm for months and months, and had the arm in a sling for 6 months, as it was useless. After about a year, his hand was about 70% - 80%. He transferred to a different city, and I have no idea if he ever fully recovered use of his hand.

Clear debris and wood from your yard. Snakes use debris to help them remain cool during hot months, or to search to find prey. Keeping yards and structures clear of debris keeps them from using these areas. Use gloves and remove firewood from wood piles carefully, during daylight hours. Watch your step next to wood piles and around the crevices between the wood. These spots can be preferred moist hiding places for several species.

In the yard, I don't worry much about venomous snakes, as I've had a large black snake in residence for years. I haven't seen him in several years, but I know he's still here. This was in the side yard when I took the dog out a few minutes ago. Moved it to the trunk of my car for scale. Last year, he left last year's outfit in an azalea bush.
