Anyone ever wonder if a Kyro III is coming out?
Sure It had a glitch or two but I owned one (now own a 9500 Pro in one machine and a 8500LE in the machine the kyro II was in before) but it was a rock solid card for me. Played any game at the time at least 800*600 and almost all 1024*768 with no problems. Was definitly the Budget gamers dream at the time (sorta like the Radeon 9100's performance for under $100 canadian). Sure it lacked T&L but the first game I remember selecting to use T&L for me was Max Payne, and it ran Max Payne with not a problem without T&L.
I am a University student and if you want to know the truth high performance Budget cards is where the money is at. I live in a Dorm and we all played Battlefield 1942 and UT2003 and NHL 2003 all the time over 100mbit lan connection. It was great. But thing is, 85% of the house did not want to spend the money on big cards like 9500 Pro and up from aTI and TI4200 and up...Seems like almost Everyone loved the 8500 LE 128MB version from ATI. (now the 9100). It could be purchases for less than $100 canadian in Fredericton New Brunswick and was a very good card. Did everything a University student could dream off...great DVD, 2D and Gaming quality and performance all wrapped up in one low price.
If these video card companies were smart, they should focus on cards like the 8500LE/9100....cause I know where we live beer/clubs/bars/travel/bills/rent/school money is very important and limited and they would make a fortune of selling these cards
and is why I ask about the Kyro II 64 MB. I hope a Kyro III comes out one day cause it really was the card for us Budgeters before the 8500LE/9100 (which is the identical card if you didnt know). Only 2x AGP, 175/175 64MB SDRAM and it still rocked the world off much larger cards. Easily competed with Geforce 2 Pro/GTS at the time (much more money) Maybe tile based rendering is where its at? what do you think?
oh by the way i heard most 8500 LE's are 8500's that didnt pass the test and can be easily o/c if you got one. Mine came @ 250/230 I beleive? (forget) but now got it running stable @ 275/275 (core would go to 300 but left it synced)
