Do you believe it?

I personally don't know. The idea of a common ancestor (for example: Adam and Eve) is kind of weird. Because if you think about it, when Adam and Eve have kids, who are the kids gonna mate with? Themselves? And even if a brother and a sister are willing to do that, what ensured that they even had a boy and a girl?

I dont believe we came from apes, nor do i believe that some guy in the sky flipped his majic wand and created man.
 
yeah, it's definitely a bit of a stretch to think that man came from apes.... but even more, how do you explains whales?!? after so many years, you'd think the dumb animals would learn to breathe under water 😕

Don't they call that adaptation? I mean.. i know for sure evolution exists. But not necessarily for humans. We're studying it right now in Bio. I dont know what other theories are out there exept Evolution, Creationism and some other ones which i do not remember nor do i know what they mean.

No i used Adam and Eve as an example of a common ancestor If i made up the names it might have gotten confusing so i just used 2 names that everyone knows.

You can get more oxygen out of air than you can water. Being warm blooded and intelligent ups your oxygen demands.

I believe in God. But I don't discount that God could have influenced the path of humans by using evolution as a tool. Ultimately we will probably not know for certain.

There aren't other theories. You have a scientific theory, the theory of evolution, and you have various theological explanations.

i'm just pointing out that evolution isn't a question of belief. belief is religious in nature.

i don't 'believe' in the theory of gravity, yet i accept that it is the best explanation we have to date of why masses are attracted to each other. i accept that evolution is the best explanation we have to explain diversity of species. if new observation points out a serious flaw in evolution, then a new theory will rise to take it's place as the best explanation to explain diversity of species.

creationism isn't a theory. it's a bad guess by a primative intellect that had no idea of the physical world around it, and thought that nature was controlled by arbitrary and capricious overlords called 'gods'

ed21x, i don't think its a stretch to imagine that whales may be in fact slowly moving towards gills, but its not required. they have evolved their current method.
think of it this way, its likely certain animals evolved from amphibians, and that animal may have created a branch, where from it there was a mammal or reptile or something, and from it, a different amphibian. That different amphibian may have returned to its roots and headed straight for the water. look at dogs and dolphins. they are said to share the same exact roots. whales also are said to have evolved from a landlocked mammal.
they may have skipped developing gills and kept their lungs. currently they thrive and can still breath and none have necessarily had difficulty in living that way (at least it doens't appear that way) so they may or may not develop that trait.
i for one believe fully in evolution and the idea that we came from a primate (one that no longer exists, but merely places chimps and other primates into the category of 'cousin'). why is it so hard to believe? look at the 'missing links' that have been found (the skeletons) and our current skeleton. its nearly able to be proven that we are infact direct evolutionary offspring of a primate.

I believe man could have come from apes with a little help. Shoot, there are folks now that are using goats injected with spider genes to make silk. I imagine that if work in genetic manipulation continues at the pace it is now, in a couple of hundred years it might very well be possible to produce chimps that are as smart as humans, or even modify apes enough to make it possible for them to produce human (or human-like) offspring. Given that, I see no reason this could not have been done in the distant past as well.
 
I like that theory about how everything is a hologram, which explains strange phenomena like repeated coincidences etc. 😛
 
Why is it that everyone who starts these dumbass threads has never taken a biology class, or passed it?
