I think it will end up as Stark vs. Targaryen. Maybe it will be both.

I think it's going to be everyone against Targaryen. The way the story is going the main characters are going to decimate each other while Daenerys is growing stronger every day. When she and the dragons return to Westeros none of the factions there are going to be strong enough to fight her on their own. They'll all have to ally against her.

it's going to be the Others vs. Daenarys, and she is going to fall in love with Jon Snow. the imp will be her councilor.

you read it here first.

edit: bran is way less annoying the second time through. so is daenarys.

I hate to ruin it for you, but he doesn't appear in this book at all. Martin decided that the fourth book was getting too long and split it in two. Instead splitting it in half through the timeline he split it in half by subplots. A Feast for Crows follows half of the characters and A Dance with Dragons will follow the other half. The two books happen simultaneously though.

So basically he just said to hell with it get all these crappy characters done and save all the juice for the second book? The cashier told me when I bought this book that he split it in two because he said 'no one would read it' if it was too huge. I think we can all agree that is not true.

Actually on his website he said he was getting heat from his publisher for taking so damn long. Can't really blame them.

Went to a book signing of his when A Storm of Swords came out. Seems like a nice enough guy, but he definitely doesn't have the healthiest look about him. I'll be way ticked if he croaks before this ends (which could easily happen with a book every five years).

So I got into these books through several recommendations. I have made it through the first 3 books

A game of thrones
A clash of kings
A storm of swords

and I am currently halfway through a feast for crows.

I found the first 3 books to be really excellent, I rarely wanted to put them down but my interest is waning heavily in the fourth book with still another to be released before the series is completed

SPOILERS SPOILERS

My favorite people to read about were
Tyrion
Robb
Eddard
Jon Snow

I really find the following people quite annoying to read about
Brienne
Bran and his stupid wolf dreams and crippled legs
Any people from the desert city of dorne
Sansa and to some extent arya

It feels like they have killed off every single one of my favorite characters except tyrion and halfway through the current book there is barely a breathe of him anywhere. It seems like either the author is going somewhere else with the series or saving all the best for the very last book (hopefully).

I am thinking perhaps that bran somehow saves his family and arya becomes a great female warrior of some sort. I think the series is still good but I can barely get through a session now without getting bored fairly quickly, what does everyone else think?

edit: yikes, i thought this book was to be the second to last, apparently there is a long wait ahead for 3 more novels argg

I hope Bran gets thrown from a second tower and actually dies this time.

And I agree that Tyrion (and his brother too) are the best characters.

Daenerys will pwn The Others (their weakness is fire and she has dragons so it's kind of obvious, or maybe not) and Targaryen-Stark will rule Westeros.

Anyone has anything interesting to discuss? I can't believe A Dance With Dragons hasn't been published YET, I'm forgetting the fine details of the story and I've read every book twice

I hope he at least has a plot outline so when he does die someone else who maybe ENJOYS writing (unlike Martin-he says, "i enjoy having written. i do not enjoy writing". Fucker) can finish it.

I re-read A Game of Thrones this week, so bumping this up.

Over a year since the last post, still no Dance With Dragons. I had planned to wait until there was an imminent release of ADWD before re-reading the series, but ended up grabbing AGOT to take with me on vacation last week, so I guess I gave up.

Sounds like ADWD is up to 1400 manuscript pages, last GRRM updated. (ASOS was 1500+, but he's saying ADWD won't be that long.). It really sounds like he's almost done, but it's sounded like that for years now, so who the hell knows.

Also, I keep rereading AGOT, but Ned gets himself killed every time. Dammit, Ned. Fortunately, so does Viserys. Love his "crowning" scene.

I suppose I'm going to go on to ACOK now. It sounds like it wouldn't take very long to get the book printed and published once GRRM finishes writing, so maybe I can still hope for ADWD by Christmas? sigh.

Haha, you wish! If he spent half as much time on this series as he does writing on his stupid blog, it would've been done YEARS ago. What a tool.

My friend gave me his series when he read Robb's death scene. He just couldn't take the death of more good guys. I loved the series but it does suffer from the Mary Sue syndrome (despite the multiple character deaths).
