Lets settle this. (i560 vs i860)

I need to understand something. Both the i560 and i 860 use 4 colors that are the exact same (the Black, Cyan, Magenta and Yellow are the same). But the i860 uses yet another Black. Is this used to create better photos? And is it worth the extra $50? ($99 for the 560 and $149 for the 860)

If you were to look at a picture from the 560 then look at the same picture printed from the 860, could you tell the difference, without examining them close up, side by side?

Thanks - Tom

Also, what is the approximate cost of a 4X6 print with an i560? This would probably be the same for a i860/i850, etc I just used the i560 for the heck of it.

I know a HiTi dye sub is $.40 so am curious how much cheaper an inkjet like the i560 really is. The HiTi is only $149 but I imagine it must be quite a bit more per print????

The 865 uses a separate Photo Black with slightly different properties. This improves the depth and brilliance of dark spots in photos.
Printing cost is quite the same in both printers, since they both use BCI-6 color cartridges and a BCI-3BK black one, and have the same 2-picoliter print head technology.

Canon specify how many pages you get out of each ink tank in typical use; you just need to calculate!

OK, so........

(1) What is the price per print? (i.e. $.17? $.30?)

(2) Can you answer my question about the difference in quality? (i.e. if you were flipping through pictures could you notice a difference between the i560 and i860?)

Thanks - Tom

(1) Each ink tank is about $9 (genuine Canon ink). Now please go to the Canon web site, printer's technical specification, to look up how long they last, and do the math. I'm not going to do it for you 😉

(2) Please see above. If you're flipping through, you won't be able to tell - both printers have impressive quality in photo printing. If you're really comparing, you will.

The i860 also has a separate holder for the 4X6 photo paper just like the i960. The 560i does not have a separate holder so you have to switch papers when changing size, some what of an inconvenience.

Also the price difference at Newegg is only $15, the i860 sells for $135 and the i560 sells for $120. Both included free FEDEX super saver.

i560 at Newegg

i860 at Newegg

I have found that the FEDEX super saver shipments usually arrive here in Maryand 1 day before the date shown in the tracking system. I just purchased the i860 and it is enroute. MD has 5% sales tax and I could not find a better deal locally.

Just realized with the manufacturer $30 rebate on the i560, at $90 after MIR it maybe (probably is) the better deal!
