Let's just *wink* say *wink* I have $2000 sitting right in front of me, all in cash.. hee hee.
And my goal is purchase a complete system including monitor, keyboard, mouse, speakers, operating system, and of course the complete rig for ~$1900. For a strange reason, it needs to be a P4 system :(

I know, I know :)

I need to price it all at one place for ease. My last computer I built was a Slot A and there aren't any updated guides on anandtech *sigh* so can you offer me some recommendations. I did a search and went through the results but, understandably, most were AMD based systems.

Mucho Appreciated folks :D

I like the idea about the Planer flat panel...those things are shaweet! I'd go with the 1.6Ghz P4 and overclock the snot out of it. The money you save can be used on more RAM, better peripherals or that Planer we talked about. I like the Intel based DDR chipsets more than the SiS simply because they seem to overclock better (ask Texmaster). The SiS has support for PC2700 memory but the performance gained is minimal at best. You have plenty of cash to spend on making a great system...good luck!

Hookers...spend it on hookers.

How did you get your name Snatch...

Yeah, computers and hookers have a lot in common. Both are expensive, loose their prime quickly, and will only pleasure you for short periods of time.

My computer is like the energizer bunny of "pleasure", for some reason (even though I work all day with computers) I can't wait to get home and hop right on. :D First off get your hardware from newegg, i have personally only bought one item from them but the word on the street about them being top notch held true for me. Their prices are top notch and the service can't be beat. Now for what hardware you should get well that all depends on what you want the system to do, Everything you say? Ok, well, for starters don't go with the P4 man, they are way over priced and can't match the performance of the athlons (my opinion of course). With that said since you are hell bent on a P4 system go with one of the Northwoods. The 1.8 can be had for about the price of the fastest XP proc. and the 2.2ghz version is, last I saw, way more expensive. Then of course you will need a good cooling solution for the proc. which would be this right here: Text. Seems to be the best for the money. That is also the same site with the good deal on the Northwood. For the mother board I would go with the ABIT TH7-RAID INTEL 850 MOTHERBOARD from newegg. You will need the raid for the 2 IBM 120gxp's using glass platters (no worries about the previous incarnations of the GXP's). Would you choose the 80gig or the 120gig version? I will leave that one up to you. Then you would need the GForce 3 for video, personally I would go with the this one here: Gainward/Cardexpet GeForce3 PowerPack III Ti550 (NVIDIA GeForce3 Ti 500 GPU), Power Pack Golden Sample, 3.8ns 64MB DDR RAM. Retail. For memory I won't go into detail but go with Corsair, nuff said. For the sound card I would say go with the VOYETRA TURTLE BEACH SANTA CRUZ but you will prolly go with one of the sound bastards er something (keep in mind the SantaCruz is only 60 bucks though and kicks ASS). For speakers you will have to go with these bad boys here: http://www.klipsch.com/index.asp?path=/main.asp?frame=y&id=&line=&1. The Klipsch 5.1 are the best pc speakers money can buy. For a monitor get a good 21inch one with a flat SCREEN (not a flat panel). Then there is the case and I have to say my favorite so far would be the Lian-Li PC-70 USB Aluminum ATX FULL tower case. Here is a link to the pic: Text. I like big cases and this one rocks! Well there it is, my dream system accept for the proc. and mobo (i chose to build arround the athlon XP2000 and the MSI Pro2RU board). Hope you are actually planning on doing it though, that was alot of work ;)
