We had a big party at my house and these 3 guys didn't pay the entrance fee. They claimed to have paid 'The fat guy in the blue shirt and sunglasses,' but unforunately for them such a man didn't exist, at least at our party. They then start yelling at our roommates and looking to start a fight. One of them threatens my roommate and starts doing the whole chest-posturing bumping-up-against-him thing, and of course my roommate has to be up to fight because he is protecting his pride. The usual pre-fight exchanges go back and forth.

I stepped in and cooled things down until the cops got there, although the guys were trying to get me to fight too. Basically my roommate was getting yelled at at his own house and had to stand his ground, but that doesn't mean he should've had to fight and wouldn't have been a victim of assault had something happened.
If you and your friends want to have an open party then you should hire a bouncer. Normally it's real easy, hire the biggest dude you know and have him sit at the door and pay him the $20 or whatever it takes.

All my parties are cool but I have the advantage of having been a professional bouncer when I was a young man... :)

We are a house of 6 men, 4 of which are or have been in the military. We can handle a few dumbasses and didn't feel it was necessary to get a bouncer because the party had maybe 30-40 people.

With that said I don't think it makes a difference if the victim was my roommate or a bouncer. If the guys started threatening the bouncer, my point still stands. The bouncer isn't looking for a fight, but has to handle it because it is his job and he has his pride to defend. That doesn't mean he deserves to have some idiot take a swing at him.

What the heck does fighting accomplish? Why should the winner of a dispute be who can beat the other person up? Makes no sense to me.

QFT, this thread is stupid.

Dude, for every fight that ends with the cops showing up, I'm sure there are a thousand fights where no one but the parties involved are in the know.

Just don't fight in a public place. And don't be a pussy and tell the cops if you lose and take the beating of a lifetime. If you willingly get into a fight to 'defend your honor', have the dignity to face the consequences. Unless of course, the dude rips your nutsack with a blade.
