I've never bought stocks before, but it seems like it could help if some people started. I certainly don't have a ton of money to throw away. It looks as though there are probably some deals out there at the moment if you're patient. If everyone bought some stocks right now it could really push the market back quickly.

So....suggestions for picks for the ignorant?

Is this a bad idea? I thought purchasing stocks would help the market?

I'm ready! I was just thinking about purchasing stocks earlier today, I'm thinking AMD... I was only going to invest a few hundred dollars, but every bit counts...

I was thinking AMD as well.. But remember the PC market was going sour even before WTC. What else is cheap and a good buy?

Well, from another thread it looks like nVidia is down. You know they will rebound. But there is probably better.

I'm not a pro and don't know what to look for. But have some faith in the market when few do and it seems like it could not only help a great deal but be a wise investment at the same time.

There a plenty of good bargains at the moment. Pretty much everything is at their 52-week low. Go for stocks that have shown to be good performers in the last few years, or maybe even more aggressive companies if you want to risk more in return for more profit.

Microsoft is down around $50 I think, I remember when it was up around $110. If you get in now you should have no problem making some money.

I believe Oracle is down around $11 now, and I believe their 52 week low was around $10 or $10.50. There's a lot of potential for growth there. A p/e ratio of 25 is very low for such a high-growth company.

Yeah, I actually made some money off of NVidia this year. It seems to be the only chip stock that increasing it's profits at the moment. I took today's drop as a buying opportunity for some more, maybe you should do the same...

It wasn't the individual investor that sold the market off today, it was the big institutions selling huge blocks. So you can buy some stocks, but it will not drive the market one way or the other. This site shows what the big boys are buying and selling, I-Watch.

Is there a way to tell what's gone down significantly in the last week?
