Let's post our AS SSD scores

I don't want to get into a discussion of the validity of AS SSD as a benchmark. It's free and quick. So let's see how our drives are stacking up. Just post the scores as follows. If you're running SATA III ACHI then don't even bother to note that with your results, it'll be assumed.

As least we can tell if our drives are operating correctly compared to other people.

Intel 320/120GB - SATA II IDE on a Dell 640m laptop - Read 38, Write 64, Total 126
Intel 330/240GB - Read 267, Write 269, Total 665
Kingston SSDNow! V100/128GB - SATA II IDE - Read 46, Write 36, Total 100
WDC Green 5400rpm/1TB - Read 8, Write 9, Total 22

Despite the large discrepancy in AS SSD performance between my Intel 320 on the laptop and Intel 330 on desktop (coupled with the fact that one is SATA II vs. SATA III) the difference in opening large applications like CorelDraw, Sony Vegas, Microsoft Expression, Photoshop Elements, and Presonus Studio One 2 is only about 2 seconds as determined by stopwatch timing. On the laptop these apps open in about 4-5 seconds whereas on the desktop 330 they'll open in just under 3 seconds.

2 seconds doesn't seem like a lot of time but I do notice the difference and when you're opening 30 or 40 applications per day (or more) it starts to add up. So on one hand my laptop with the relatively "slow" Intel 320 on SATA II is so much faster than my old mechanical 5400rpm drive it's not even funny. But on the other hand I've been completely spoiled by the Intel 330 on my desktop and now that's my "baseline" for drive performance.

Hopefully we'll get to the point where all of my apps will open as fast as Word and Excel, which is pretty much instant.

Confusing request you want AS SSD scores but you don't want SATA II ACHI yet you have SATA II IDE numbers for examples?

And what about people with Raid setups?

You know what i've been curious about for awhile now.

Even with a beast setup like yours adam the 4k read numbers and 4k write numbers are no better than a single SSD setup.

Anyone know why there hasn't been any improvement on ssd in this area?

Yeah, not sure about that.

Here's my OCZ Vertex 4 256GB Intel NAND drive on the Intel X79 SATA3 controller.

We're capped by NAND bandwidth. 4KB read/write at queue depth of 1 can only take advantage of one NAND die, whereas higher QD and IO size transfers can be written to/read from using multiple NAND dies simultaneously. Writes can be cached to DRAM, hence they are faster but even that benefit is limited.

Ooopps. wrong app...Still same shizel, Im using 512k per cluster btw. Sometimes test gets me 534 seen upt o 540mbps .... is this due to the firmware or am I a genious using 512k per cluster instead of the default 4096KB. thx gl

"You show me yours, dear, and I'll show you mine!" Personally I think this constant barrage of test scores for SSDs is, as WelshBloke calls it, "Willy Waving." Every time you run such a test, you shorten the life of your SSD - maybe a small amount, but it does.

Thank you Corky. Hes right when he says your abusing your CPU with benchmarks..

Hes right,,,,, soo right,,,,,, how many times does your ivy or sandy go to 100 percent.. NEVER ,,,,,,,, lol so ya more gaming and less benchmarks guys.

Sorry I worded that badly. I mean if you are SATA III then don't even note that with results, it's assumed.
For RAID just post config.
