Let's play with the market's swings.

Name some stocks that you think is a good bargain, the criteria has to be cheap enough to acquire and has big enough swings that can make you money in the short term, as well as long term.

I know it's crazy because if we know for sure we'd all be filthy rich, but I figure if Wall Street can do it, so can we.

I'll start with one, GUIDGUID, this is one that Cramer a long time ago said it would be great, the stock is now at 2.44 and this morning was at 2.03. I contemplated a thousand shares, don't know why I didn't pull the trigger. I believe hold is the long position, the company makes solid products and its revenue is much higher that its current market cap.

Add your own and your analysis.

I don't know, 900 points swing seems like the norm nowadays.

Six Flags, inc (SIX)

This isn't a recommendation, I only mention it because the stock has been rolling a lot lately.

Six has a ton of debt, is horribly mismanaged (IMHO), just got the NYSE delisting warning for being under $1/share for too long, have had their credit rating downgraded several times this year, delayed their last quarter earnings reports a month, decided not to pay their PIERS dividend, hasn't turned a profit in years...well, you get the picture.

BUT (<---big but) you might be able to make some cash if you got in on the down roll and quickly out again on the upswing. They seem to roll on just about a daily basis, but also heavily fluctuate on a weekly and quarterly bases as well. Since their business is seasonal they tend to be worth a bit more in the summer/fall.

Their next earnings report is Nov. 10, 2008, but I don't expect it to be all that hot, contrary to some expectations. If I had the extra cash I might invest in them very short-term, but I don't. Good luck.

Edit to say: I don't follow the market AT ALL. I just follow this particular stock because I worked for the company back when SIX was worth about $66/share. It breaks my heart to see it trading for >30 cents today.

Unless you were shorting FXP, how?

Parody on the 70k.

Thread was about market swings. (you know, up and down movements) Since FXI is a Chinese index ETF while FXP is an ultrashort ETF, I can aggressively play the ups and downs of the Chinese market which is pretty volatile. Makes for a fun roller coaster ride.

If you're feeling crazy, CC. It's been swinging a third of its value every day for a few weeks. Largely random though. I've been watching CLF the past two weeks, and an kicking myself for not getting in under $22 yesterday. QID and QLD these days, if you can pick which way the market swings on a given day you can make 10%.

These are crazy times, and I think a small group of people with big capital and bigger balls stand to make a helluva fortune in the coming months.

I made some money on FXI but it's insignificant and it was last year.

I don't like the idea of penny stocks but if I have to do it right now most likely it will be AIG. GG was pretty cyclical this year and it's on the upswing, makes a pretty good future short candidate.

I've been playing with JAVA, STM, and RRI for the last few weeks, but there are better choices than them.

Whoops. CFL Brinks Home Sec Hldgs Inc . This is why:

Something else I wanted to get in to as well is ATVI (Activision), they're supposed to have a huge next two quarters.
