What if a black woman has a business of making cakes. A Klan leader comes in and wants a festive dozen cakes with the KKK logo and lynchings on each of their cakes. Should the owner/Cake maker not be able to refuse that?

I get the relation of not being able to refuse service going back to the racist times of not allowing/refusing service to blacks in restaurants, but again - this isn't refusing the product. They can buy a cake/cookie from the baker, it's the CUSTOMIZED product they are asking for that the owners have a problem with.

The smart business owner today makes that damn cake, then calls the news media to say they did and then they receive the windfall of support for being fucking small business owners who give a shit about one thing, making money.

Besides, let's be honest, this cake maker has probably made plenty of penis and boobs cakes for all manner of perverts well ahead of this request. Why start judging now? ;)

And you know this irony goes both ways.

I don't even begin to know what point you think you're making, unless you think asking for your wedding cake to be made by a bakery is the same thing.

It isn't.

But if "this irony" really did go both ways, would you deny it a cake?

was the Klan leader born a racist redneck asshole, or did they just grow into that lifestyle?

Was it exactly like that though? I wonder what they meant by "mob tactics". Perhaps they were subjected to a kind of concerted internet and real life assault that made remaining open intolerable.

Maybe that's the deeper irony here. Refusing service is a clear sign of a person holding a certain opinion, but I'm not sure I would call it intolerance. They may tolerate the LGBT community alright, they just want nothing to do with them. The LGBT community on the other hand appeared to not be able to tolerate that opinion one bit. They apparently hounded the business right out of business. Isn't that what someone who really cannot tolerate something would do? So the group that typically crusades against intolerance went on to participate in it. Is that irony, or just a contradiction? Sometimes I get the two mixed up.

You are so right!!

i play music at weddings and wouldn't do it at a gay wedding, but i wouldn't say why. i'd just tell them i am too busy. much easier that way.
What if it was guys who were gay? That might lead to a surplus of straight women... you might have a chance! :p

Incorrect

When you say they were denied service because of their orientation, you are talking about identity.

Like saying 'No Blacks allowed.'

Being black is part of your identity and you are being denied service because of who you are.

This is not the same. They were clearly not being denied because of who they were.

They were being denied because they were engaging in an activity the owner disagreed with. There is a tremendous difference between someone refusing to engage in an activity they disagree with and refusing to serve someone because of who they are.
What activity is that? Serving and eating cake with their friends? Imagine that - a cake maker who disagrees with eating cake.

They wanted to get married and they wanted a wedding cake that would signify THEIR union, just like anyone and everyone else would. They were denied service because of their orientation.

And if a Muslim wanted a cake celebrating the creation of the ISIS caliphate, would you think bakeries should make it without protest?

I swear, if I were homosexual, I'd spend my days forcing Muslim bakeries to make homo-erotic cakes for me. If they refuse, I'd go on TV and whine about how I was being discriminated against.

"Daddy, why is that poster above equating a gay couple simply wanting to buy a f*cking wedding cake with the murderous barbarians of ISIS?"

"Because he's a homophobic bigot made blindly stupid by his bigotry, Billy.

He probably doesn't even realize he shares his 7th century outlook on homosexuals with ISIS."

Sadly, this is the level of maturity and reasoning I've come to expect from you.

you're attempted analogy was third grade level, though. And you probably will never understand that.

sad.

If it's over your head to consider the difference between discrimination based on religious beliefs and sexual orientation, then that's your problem son.

moron.

--one is born gay.

--one is born neither christian, islam, or terrorist.

religious affiliation is a choice. sexual identity is not.

moron.

also, people aren't generally born morons, either. Many choose this path. I won't hold that against you, but I kindly ask that you please stop polluting my bandwidth with it.

We aren't bombing ISIS because of their religious beliefs, we're bombing them for the political beliefs that they practice. Oppression of minorities, fondness for violence, and practical fascism are all pretty good reasons to have nothing to do with a person or group, and ISIS is proud of all three.

a wedding is an activity, not an identity

moron.

they would have certainly made the cake for a hetero wedding; acknowledging the good christians in their jesus-approved union as all good christians do.

they did not make it for this wedding, because this was a gay wedding. This was quite explicit, targeted at the individuals, and they claimed that these people were sinners (yeah, basically jesus once said that all people are sinners, they are sinners, we all sin, yadda yadda so don't be a dick to people; but these rednecks didn't read that part)

anyway, don't be a moron.

God dammit zin, proofread your burns before posting. You know what else is third grade level? The difference between "you're" and "your." Also, capitalization. I mean, I agree with you in principle, but your execution was atrocious, and nothing makes you look like an idiot faster than calling someone stupid with a misspelling. DUMASS.
